How come Star Wars 4,5,6 are better looking than the first 2?

I think movies need to go back to the originality and creativity of movies. They had more of a story and look more realistic than todays computer animation. I think just watching the trilogy over the last week I have to say I enjoyed these episodes than the new ones. What do you guys think?:thumbsup

It started going downhill with Return of the Jedi.

One word : Ewok

lucas has said it him self many times. 4,5, and 6 were the most important part of the story. that's why he made it first. it's alot more interesting, and i'm sure easier to do special effects wise at the time. i don't think they could have shown the clone wars very well back in the day.

No way this shit was realistic too. I'm talking about quality. Todays movies are to animated and not realistic.

That's what I was saying. Lucas started to see the potential of movie related products.

The trilogy lost it's quality with Return of the jedi when he forced cute little ewoks into the script.

Same mistake with Jar Jar Binks..

Doesn't matter if you have a CGI movie of a movie with "cute" real furry puppets, the script was lame. Lucas doesn't know how to write good stories.

He's a good director and a marketing genius, that's all.

The Phantom Menace and Attack of The clones would have been bad even if he didn't use a lot of CGI. It was doomed from the start on paper.

Bansheelinks 07-24-2004 11:08 PM

Well, George Lucas, he ain't no Peter Jackson now is he?

GatorB 07-24-2004 11:11 PM

animations are evolving
they will get to a point where you cant tell the difference.. its a transitional period now

Well I'll go see it of course, but lets just say many of us are very disappointed at how bad the last two SW movies are. Where is the spirit? Where are the good scripts and storytelling? Where are the characters, and why are they so wooden in the last two (despite some real talented actors and actresses). Look to Lucas for the answers to those questions. I'm not saying he should have honed it for 7 years the way Jackson did the LOTR, but jesus, it was decades since episode 6...........what the hell has Lucas been doing? Answer: he's grown lazy and his scripts and storytelling reflect this.

What I'd love to see...............a sequel to Blade Runner! Are you listening Ridley Scott? Now thats an incredible film maker, folks.

michel 07-24-2004 11:17 PM

the old ones had some sort of magic

Torn Rose 07-24-2004 11:28 PM

What I think is the worst part is all the time wasted in #1 with the dumb cutesy pie kid scenes and the pod races and crap WHO CARES?

And the whole idea of him building C3PO and being around R2D2 and yet, none of them remember it in 4, 5, 6.

If he was making more movies show that crap, but he is only making 3, and I wanted to see Darth Vader being Darth Vader and doing all the evil they said he did and I want to see more then just the 5 minutes that I am sure will be all that is shown due to time in #3.

Hell, they say the battle with Obi Wan is over 20 mins and the longest sword fight in movie history, which is good, but how much story will be in that 1hour and 40 min that is left to get from a teenager to Darth Vader and still make sense?

I wanted a whole movie of DARTH VADER DAMMIT!!!!!

Bansheelinks 07-24-2004 11:31 PM

I think General Grievous will be very cool, but look at that even. Why does he have to be so fucking obvious and name a major villain "Grievous." George Lucas is "intellectual-lite." He now seems to be making movies solely for kids and merchandising cheap plastic toys (Jar Jar Stinks).

fiftyfingers 07-24-2004 11:33 PM

When the first were created it was about the love of the story and the fans. The newest ones are about the money.

I'd take an Ewok over Jar-Jar any day!

GatorB 07-24-2004 11:44 PM

Well we all know what's going to happen in part 3 for sure. It's just HOW the story is told.

easier special effects? no way, the effects were absolutely revolutionary back then.

the prequels suck, no story, shit acting.

Well part 3 will have a story sicne Anikin turns into Vader his chick has Luke and Lea and I assume she dies since she's not in part 4. In fact Anikin( Darth ), Obi Wan, Yoda, C3PO, R2D2, Chewbacca, the emporer and the Jimmy Smitts character are probally the only ones that survive. Or at least the ones I know won't die for sure.

kahloz 07-25-2004 02:23 AM

but without ewokes and the prequals, where would all the video games and endorsements have come in in the last 5 years????

THINK OF THE RICH PEOPLE WHO NEEDED MORE MONEY! :Graucho

I never saw SW: 4,5,6

I barely made it through 1, actually, I saw about 20 minutes of it. Saw a wittle bit of part 2 (where Yoda was kicking ass) :thumbsup

I agree, the first LOTR movie was awesome could hardly tell it was animated. Second one was awesome but you could tell. And the third one although it was an awesome movie a good portion of it looked just so fake.

AnalProbe 07-25-2004 02:56 AM

He should have listened to Jim Henson.

More puppets, less actors... :winkwink:
