name dropping - does it make the person look like an ass
say someone starts telling you they 'spent last night with [insert name here]' or they 'had dinner with [insert name here] from [insert company here]'
does that make them look like an asshole if they are a webmaster who only mentioned another 'webmasters' name |
i spent last night with Tawnie Stone. Then had dinner with Ron Jeremy.
No bullshit :winkwink: |
yes, i hate name droppers
those certain people that can ONLY talk about the experiences they had with semi-famous people.....or even the famous ones, but that is more rare one dude wanted to go on and on about all the people he has hung out with in porn valley....i mean come on, it ain't all that impressive anymore |

in this thread you could have spent last night with the pope and tawny stone and you wouldnt look like an ass (hmm... then again) but what i mean is when people tell you for no reason they had dinner with a webmaster that everyone knows like me turning around and saying last night i had dinner with sleazydream in a thread about hosting companies |

I drop my own name when im bragging.. works like a charm

there's a way to drop names and there's a way not to. i don't usually do it in the context of trying to make myself look important. the only time i do it is to try to help someone out.
ex. my friend was trying to get a job at a restaraunt. i happened to know some people there, so she used my name when getting interiewed like "yeah justin told me to come down here." and got the job. or of course as a reference. "Hey, you came highly reccomended from so and so". but you're definately right, name dropping to make yourself seem more important is just ridiciulous. :2 cents: |
