no one wants desktops anymore
 

we just started a used computer business, and I'm finding that one out of 20 calls we get are requests for desktops and the rest all want laptops.

I'm thinking that before long, desktops will be a thing of the past, laptops are getting better and better all the time.

does this sound about right to you?

I like desktops , they are more powerful :)

I like desktops but I play a lot of games.

but they're coming out with some pretty powerful laptops these days.. sure they're expensive as hell.. that may be the only drawback.. well the only one that I can think of anyway

Just picked up a P4 3.2 Toshiba laptop tonight... Fuckin' sweet...:thumbsup

with the rise in wireless internet, desktops arent nescessary anymore

i've never been a fan of laptops for general work machines. their architecure just doesn't seem to deal well with a large workload.

when you're done disconnect and go

Game machines = Desktops.
Get shit done machines = Desktops

Versitile overpriced machines = Laptops

The laptop screen is way too far away for me to be able to use another keyword with it, the screen would be like 3 feet away

and i hate the laptop keyboards for doing a lot of typing, its ok for surfing without much hand movement, but sucks for typing

i threw out my desktop, with the laptop i can still use a desktop style setup (keyboard, mouse, monitor) but when i go on the road or on vacation i can take it with me and do a little work

I'm ashamed to admit I didn't know what a docking station was, believe it or not, this used computer business is run by my two 13 yr old boys.. they know a lot more about computers than I do, I just provided the initial funding for it :)

I prefer desktops too.

since laptops tend to travel alot they just seem to get beat on quickly, slow down, more prone to errors.

i finally bought a laptop at the end of may after over a year of hesitation.

while i love it, i still need my desktop. the laptop keyboard/mouse are simply not practical for long periods of work.

I have one desktop and one laptop now.

And im ordering a new desktop and laptop this week from dell and a buying a flatscreen monitor.

Sure.. and I am doing dtp work too so it is a must.

although i must admit i resort to my pc for long periods of work or work i need to concentrate on because a touchpad isnt practical, or the layout of the laptop.

i cant see myself swithing any time soon, desktops are more powerful and cheaper.

I had laptops when I was travelling a lot. Hauling one around (carefully) was a pain, and I never used them enough to make the extra cost and poorer reliability worthwhile.

Good hotels have business centers. So if I need a PC on the road and all else fails, I use theirs.

I know laptops are more fashion than desktops, and they are coming powerful than before. But I still feel more comfortable with desktops when I'm at office..
