Webmasters insurance....do you guys have any medical insurance?

since I quit my job a few years ago and became a webmaster I have no medical insurance, I was wondering where do self employed people get insurance that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? How many of you that are a webmaster full time even have insurance?

The older i get the more i need it http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/redface.gif

I have it thru some freelance work. Better than most places give. lol

But there are groups all over the country of self employed people that band together to get it at a more reasonable rate. Look in the want ads and such. They advertise to attract more people. You might also check with self employed carpenters and others in work fields that really need to carry it.

If you have one of those HELP lines in your area, they may know as well, county mental health, doctors, lots of sources to track those groups down. When they first started here about 15 yrs ago they tacked signs on phone poles. http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/smile.gif

You sometimes can even do better than a small business employee on the rates! Good luck! http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/smile.gif

best bet is to set up a "company". It's supercheap to do, and there are alot of advantages. You can pick up a better deal on insurance, AND you can put yourself on payroll for the 'company' so you can get some tax advantages. Pay yourself say 500 a week, let the rest sit in the "company" account and enjoy the benefits http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/biggrin.gif

Us Brits have the NHS. http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/smile.gif

If you need a heart transfer, brain op, amputation... it can all be done on the NHS.

Although I'm not so keen on their medievil practices, and huge fuck off waiting list. Every month or two it's on the news - some guy, 75, 80, 85 years old or whatever has been waiting 5 years for a hip replacement. Nasty.

I'm looking at getting some private healthcare, BUPA for example. I haven't really thought about it... it's on my "to do" list. http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/smile.gif

ace0r, making yourself a company doesn't give you diddly. lol We're incorporated and we get no breaks, nor did we or me and my ex as a co or inc. It's numbers that give the breaks

Those groups of self employed get some very good rates, Some in the larger cities have thousands of 'members'.

And there is no problems that we have heard of about them. The field I work in, believe me, I would have heard of any rumbles. <G> I do human services/rights for a national VERY large union http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/wink.gif I have to go in several times of year for new and improved training and part of it is sitting and reading this sort of thing as well as statistics on things that would bore ya to tears. (I often fall asleep with my head on my hand) but they have this mean guy with a cattle prod.....

Can we say pilot strike? http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/wink.gif

actually gem having a co. does more than 'diddly' maybe you should 1) do some homework on it 2)check with the 'hubby' or 3) get somebody else to maintain your accounting.

My wife worked in a doctors office that had 8 employees and they could not get a discount because there were not enough Employees We were actually able to get insurance cheaper on our own than had we gone through the company
