tip for higher clickthru on galleries

was replying in another topic, and got carried away giving a tip on a different issue http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/smile.gif so I thought I'd give it here...

also the fact it's been two guys in the last day asking me the same question... thought this could help some of you perhaps?

let me know if this help...

tip to get better clickthru in galleries.
( I should say this i mostly for full page ads, not templates galleries... as Not Banner/thumbs/banner type of page...

___

if you can get the surfer to get caught in your "channel".... in your flow, then there's no way he'll get out of it... he'll just HAVE to click on your link... and if you design your page well enough for him to see the link at a glance, then BAM... there the guy goes, a click for you...

Easy guidelines:

1- Make the guy horny (text, pictures)
2- Make him want more (good pictures, text)
3- Let him see how good the site is (sell the site with a bit of text)

that's the only 3 factors when it comes to sell a site to a surfer.... only those, with variants.... you can use ONE factor, or 3 at the same time, find what works for you...

Make sure the gallery is well design so that there are no real HOLE in the gallery... it must look like an entire page.... not just different blocks... you must seek for the perfect symbiosis of pics, descriptions and links.

and for those of you that have low clickthru... MAKE 'EM SEE THE LINK!

if you get only 1-2%, look at your page....

then see if you did the following.. if not, go back, modify it, and see if there's a change... there should be:

1- Link Text should use blind type stuff, but used correctly...

instead of "ENTER" or "CLICK HERE" say "Click HERE for Amateurpages.com" or
"Enter For MORE at
AmateurPages.com"

that way, tgps are happy, you tell the surfer what it is, but you get to use clear wording as to them knowing it's where they need to go for more.

2- Link Text should be CLEARLY DIFFERENT
Use anything so it stands out of the page. That is
- High Contrast Color
- Bigger Font
- Bold, Italic
- other Jpgs

that should do it...

I mean, if you are on a webpage, and you wanna buy a new mother board... but you can't find the god damn BUY button... are you going to buy there? same for the surfers, they won't click if they can't find it FAST.

I have a question.

Why not set your site up like Amazon.com? Or Yahoo? Or some other online billionaire?

Those people have poured mountains of money into click patterns, marketing, customer patterns, all that. Every part of their layout has been calculated. Why not learn from them? If they build a site with a little logo in the upper left, it must be for a reason. Right? How about a banner in the lower right. Isn't all that there for a reason?

I'm not saying to steal their layouts, I'm just saying can't we learn from them? Analyze, and learn. (he he ANALyze)
I think I just lost credibility with the 'anal' thing.

i found this somewhere on a website :

Banner Ad Placement Study

This study assessed the impact of banner ad location on click-through
rates for webreference.com. The site caters to webmasters, providing
information on the creation and maintenance of web sites. Most of the
webreference's revenues come from the sale of advertisements (namely
banner ads) on their content pages. Therefore, it is essential that the
ads have a high click-through rate to stimulate future advertisement on
the site.

Several studies have been performed on other sites by independent
agencies to determine the role that elements of the ad (animation, etc.)
play in click-through rates. This study determines if location also plays an
important factor in the click-through rates.
Major Findings

1.Ads next to the right scroll bar (in the lower right-hand
corner of the first screen*) generated a 228% higher
click-through rate than ads at the top of the page.
2.Ads placed 1/3 down page, as opposed to the top,
generated 77% higher click-through rates.
3.Results from placing two ads on a page (at top and
bottom) were inconclusive.

There was an article in Business 2.o about an advert company using image maps to watch where any particular surfer's mouse pointer naturally went on a page and then when the server recognised the ip or the cookie they would serve ads based on each person's preference.

That's the kinda shit you can do with half a zillion dollars in venture capital.

that has to do with where the eyes wander naturally...

see, most eastern cultures read from left to right, top to bottom...

it's less likely that somebody is to look on the left, bottom corner...

beeing lazy, they will start looking at top left, to right... then middle, then they'll skip to bottom right.... http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/smile.gif

that proves the point why I read best place for a counter was left bottom, and that lower right banner you guys just posted...
