Web Lawyers in Canada (Ontario/Quebec)

Could anybody recommend a good quality firm that won't rape my ass to the bank?

Or maybe, if you are in the Ottawa/Gatineau/Montreal region, sharing a lawyer could be possible?

Any ideas? (this is regarding 2257)

Consider that Canadian lawyers are qualified in Canadian law. I would hazard a guess that offering an opion on a US law, would get a Canadian lawyer in deep dodo, unless he was also a member of the bar in the US, somewhere.

Findind a Canadian firm, with a US lawyer, experienced in 2257 is....... a bit of a longshot.

Maybe if we can get a hundred or so biz people in Canada to cough up $200 each, we can get the job done.

But on my sit, I state clearly that I am subject to Canadian law, even though I support the spirit of 2257.

When I sell to a web site, I provide full 2257, at least as declared by the performers. I cannot guarantee that they have povided every name they have ever worked under. And how would they know every name some webmaster applied to their photo sets?

My legal representation is by the law offices of Fasken Martineau out of Vancouver but they do have offices all over the world.

Top notch firm, over 500 lawyers but they are not cheap.

In which way 2257 will affect you? Is your biz incorporated in the US?

I do not know how 2257 will affect me.

I am not a primary producer, but I do qualify as a secondary producer through my TGPs.

I do not use any custom content, or content I made, I just use 100% hosted galleries.

Still, this new law has left me perplexed as to what I should do.

2257 is an existing law, it's not a new law.

and as a Canadian, the short answer is that you aren't subject to the law. it goes deeper than that, of course.

but, like Paul Waters said, a Canadian lawyer won't be able to give you proper counsel.
