Canada or USA...what's a better country to live in?

I currently live in the USA, but I'm strongly considering moving to Vancouver, seeing how the USA is going to shit.

Here is what I could come up with while trying to compare the two.

Canada // USA

Free health insurance. // expensive health insurance.
avg 138 deaths/year by guns. // avg 14,000 deaths/year

That's pretty much the two major deciding factors. so far it looks like Canada is in the lead...

Canada ...but you won't like it ..it's too cold and we have walrus running all over the place

ah, another my country is better than yours thread, gotta love it.

I personally would prefer canada. I met as many canadians as americans in my life, but still have not met one canadian dickhead. me comes to the conclusions: canadians are very nice people!!

Ya... my igloo is falling apart and I can't afford to get it fixed. The damn taxes are killing me....

Walrus don't bother me :). The cold weather however, does. How cold are we talking?

WiredGuy 07-22-2004 06:52 PM

If you don't like cold winters, don't come here.
If you don't like paying huge taxes, don't come here.

Otherwise, welcome :)

Not really. I stated that I currently live in the USA. I'm not saying my country is better then Canada :).

Ask again after the elections in the US, lol.

quiet 07-22-2004 06:53 PM

how many minutes until this degrades to a 'my country is better than yours flamefest'?

Doctor Dre 07-22-2004 08:27 PM

Insurance is cheaper here ... cost of life if you go to montreal is cheaper (a lot cheaper then vanc) then in most big american cities .

jade_dragon 07-22-2004 08:27 PM

There is free healthcare here in the U.S. and from what all my Canadian friends say it is the equivelent of canadian healthcare in which it sucks. If anything serious happens they just come to the U.S. to take care of it. Most people who go on and on about this subject never really look at it from that point of view.

Rhino, tell us where you're coming from, what you're looking for, and we'll tell ya where to go. :-)

I'm a U.S. citizen. I live in Canada. I say Canada's better.. although I have met a few dickheads :) I suspect every country has its share.
The reason I think it's better is that it tends to lean a tiny bit more toward personal liberty and privacy while at the same time being a compassionate country.
The current so-called "liberal" government has temporarily reversed the trend toward freedom and compassion, but this election they are sooooooooo outta there...

Vancouver is an absolutely amazing place to live. I still miss it everyday :)
