Vegas Guys : Casino Jobs?

Hey guys, just curious.

I'm winding up my PhD next year and I thought I'd take a year or two to have some fun before I start looking for real jobs.

Is there anyone I should be talking to regarding looking for a job at casinos for dealing / hosting / whatever? I speak english, french fluently, and currently hack spanish (but working on it all the time).

I assume as an educated, normal looking, in shape, multilingual guy I could do all right finding a job, but any hints or ideas where and who I should be hitting up and how would be awesome.

I knew a guy who moved to vegas 8 years ago, he paid someone $10,000 for his valet parking job. He was bringing in over 125k per year parking friggin cars.

Dusen 07-22-2004 06:26 AM

That type thing I would be able to do too - I have some capital I could spend. :P

Yeah, you have to know someone to get one of those jobs without going to dealing school... Least back in 93 when I left Vegas. Had a buddy that could have gotten me in.. but I was not going to cut off all my hair for a friggin job... done that once... job didn't last and it takes too long to grow back.

Bump so the vegas guys are actually awake for this thread.

Get you CDL passenger license and become a limo driver.

Coming from someone who lives in Vegas, here's my :2 cents:

To get a dealers job, you'll need to go to a dealer school, there 3 or 4 here that the casinos will accept..

You will also need to get a Sheriff's Card, which involves finger printing and background check, allow 3 weeks for that to happen..

Do that BEFORE you start any dealers school,, so that when you graduate dealers school, you'll have your card.

Most of the big casions won't hire someone right out of dealer school, unless ( like stated above ), you know someone...

You'll probably start at one of the local casinos making minimum wage plus split tips, but if you're in it only for the fun... :)

Be prepared for high housing costs, gas prices, and about 6,000 new ppl moving here a month, so traffic is starting to become a real bitch..

Best of luck...

Tell me about it... I left in 93... Oct.. the year the Luxor opened, actually opening day and it was crowded back then But rent and food were at least cheap back then. 2.99 bufets... LOL I went back up there for a few months and DAMN... could not believe how much that city has grown... I mean I have been to the strip before this..... but spending a few months there and seeing the entire city... man... UNBELIEVABLE... and what is with the watering down of the streets? Lake Mead is down 70+ feet and you guys waste water to keep the dust down? I mean you all know you moved to a desert... right? Man... Almost California prices and NO OCEAN... Had to come back home... I know Phoenix is nothing to write home about... but the cost of living here is still pretty reasonable. I like Vegas don't get me wrong... but to visit, cannot see selling my house to live there on a perm. basis.

Dusen,

With all the new hotel building currently happening in Vegas, you shouldn't have troubles looking for a dealing / host job. Many big hotels/casinos have their own huge HR areas. There's also a lot of easy dealing schools nearby

The water situation is serious, the drought conditions are probably at the once-every-500-year event level at this point.

As to the trafffic in Vegas? Just like Los Angeles. And the number of people moving there is correct. I have heard that some Vegans are now moving out and up to Pahraump, an hour drive away.

Good luck.

Mr.Fiction 07-23-2004 12:23 AM

Would you consider taking a job as a gay escort?

GTS Mark 07-23-2004 12:26 AM

If I moved to Las Vegas it would be only to do a "Leaving Las Vegas". :winkwink:

God I love that town but it would be the death of me!!
