visa? lol

TDF 07-21-2004 10:49 AM

i would call it smart buisness

kronic 07-21-2004 10:56 AM

I think you'll see more being announced.

What I've noticed though is it's not one company sponsoring a party, it's 4 or more. So there will probably be a couple less parties.

Companies are simply combining resources. That also gets these companies together where they may do business with each other, where they may not have before.

I don't think it really matters. This way, I may actually get to every party instead of picking between 3 good ones.

Like toodamnfli says, smart business.

WiredGuy 07-21-2004 10:58 AM

You just need to be invited to the real good parties :)
The open invite parties have been cut for sure, too much leeching has been going on in the past to justify the costs.

as i said, smart buisness :)

Joesho 07-21-2004 11:01 AM

well, when you have a bunch of jerks that do not know how to conduct themselves when they get fucked up what do you expect?

the parties are meant for fun, and networking at great expense to the sponsors, then you get assholes like grimshawn throwing plants from the balcony, and setting off fire alarms in the hotels etc......

I was gonna throw a 420 4 L party and have it be an open bar party, but too many kids and idiots, that are nolt there for the right purpose, but only for the free booze, and a chance to look cool.... not worth it..... Private parties are the new wave I believe as well.:2 cents:

Keev 07-21-2004 11:02 AM

i am sure there are more to be announced :winkwink:

Keev 07-21-2004 11:07 AM

i didnt hear that

chipmunk 07-21-2004 12:23 PM

You are right...

However, like Kronic mentioned, we (SEXMoney.com) went the multi-sponsor party path: SEXMoney.com, Klixxx.com, SexSearch.com AdultChamber.com & TrafficCashGold.com

A 13 Kegger on the 13th :)

Should be a blast, as we will have a diverse group of webmasters/sponsors attending ...Which will make networking really good! :winkwink:

Hope to see you all there :)

Warm regards,

PMGames 07-21-2004 12:33 PM

I agree with smarter business.

I think branding is important, but the egos is what really pushed things bigger and bigger in the past. I think with all of the changes, the excess isn't there as much as the past, so why waste the money.

What was interesting is that last year....a company bought out an entire strip club for the night....not naming names because that isn't important....they have like 200 girls they picked, all free lap dances and open bar all night long....okay....so how much did they drop on that party do you think?

Sadly....I was on a bus going to Joe E's private party the next night along with the owner and crew of that strip club party amoung tons of other people.....I wanted to test something, so I asked around on the bus, who threw that slamming as party last night at the strip club.....no one on the fucking bus knew. That was a wakeup call.

I agree about the leeching too. Man....last few shows when I am at the parties attempting to network....I swear that 50% of the crowd is someone's buddy that told them how cool the parties were....they are not even in the busines....wtf! And to think the money that is put out on these parties by the sponsors.

I personally have co-sposnored and put my $10-15K+ up for my sponsorships in the past.....honestly.....I am looking for Branding and ROI.....Not ego......if I can't see how something will give me the return I need.....I just don't do it.

I think a lot of others feel the same way and that is why things are going more private, invite only and multiple sponsor route these days.

Just my :2 cents: :)

See you guys at the show!

kronic 07-21-2004 12:48 PM

I know of the party that Paul's talking about and yes the leeching is pretty bad.

The leeching is SO bad, that when the drinks are FREE, adult webmasters don't even feel the need to tip.

I gave $5 each time I went up and got a couple of drinks. (I did at the Silvercash bar as well).

Near the end of the night I was talking to the hot bartender and said that she must be making alot of money tonight. She laughed and asked me, "Have you noticed that you're not having to wait in line for your drinks."

I said, "Kind of I guess".

She said, "That's because you're one of a handful of people that are tipping tonight."

For a group of people that always talk about how much money we make, we're apparently pretty cheap.

Or just full of shit.

Dax 07-21-2004 12:51 PM

I'll be throwing one at solid gold.. if anyone wants to get in and sponsor it.. I may have spots.

party @ aquariomedia . com

One2one-Jennifer 07-21-2004 12:53 PM

Our party is the party you want to attend. It's so easy to get a pass to as well. :Graucho

Just like what some of the other replies were, it boils down to return on investment. Decisions are made on terms of "How can we recover all this money we are spending?" Branding is just one aspect of it.

PMGames 07-21-2004 12:54 PM

That is sad.....I always tip in general, but especially when it is free drinks. I am sure that the party has an automatic gratuity included to the one throwing it...but still.....it is a fucking free drink....

I use to work in food service and bars years ago, so maybe this is why I don't even think twice about it.

We should get "Leech" stamper made up.....when we identify one, we throw them on the ground, hold them down, and brand their forehead! lol

I just ICQ'ed you.....had a great time sponsoring that party with you last year. :)

Who remembers this, from a few months ago?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So what I'm hearing is that new sites with good content that convert and retain, honest payouts, and fair treatment of the webmasters is the way to earn webmaster loyalty?

When you guys are all at the next convention, wondering why there's no open bar and no tits in your face, you can reread this thread.

LOL!

The sad part about it is, some people would be proud to be sportin' the stamp.

Peaches 07-21-2004 01:10 PM

What's interesting is that the Internext site has a quote about sponsoring parties from John V with ARS...yet unless I'm missing something (which can always happen...) I don't see any parties ARS is sponsoring!:eek7

Steve Lightspeed

Yeah, this is pretty much a no-brainer. Or so you'd think.

What you see at the parties is a bunch of people who have never or don't have any intention of promoting these sponsors, leeching off of them.

The catch22 though is you probably don't want to make conventions an old boys club. You're always looking for new affiliates, and showing that you're a reliable company that has money, is gonna make alot of people secure in sending you traffic.

Silvercash's Happy Hour is a perfect example. Noone is gonna worry that they're gonna go under anytime soon.

When people STOP running parties or even GOING to show's, it's assumed that they're in financial peril and affiliates get nervous and look at other sponsors. That's something the big guys put on themselves from past blowouts.

P.S. Those of us with a clue, know the industry is changing and this Lightspeed isn't going under because they're not gonna be in Miami. But there's alot of people on here without a clue.

SteveLightspeed 07-21-2004 01:30 PM

We are taking a break from the conventions for a while. I sponsored and/or attended over 50 in a row, more than anyone else in the last 3 years.

Right now, we are putting all our money into content, sites, and systems. Buying booze for webmasters is a great way to meet everyone, and get your name out, don't misunderstand me. But there comes a point when a company is fully branded, and spending more money on it seems unnecessary.

I'm sure there will be lots of good parties at Internext this year, hopefully all the attendess will make an effort to thank the sponsors with their traffic and support.

Steve no need to buy me a drink just keep sending the checks.

:thumbsup

PS I have pointed this out before but Lightspeedcash is one of the few revshares that nets me over $35/signup.

GigaLisa 07-21-2004 01:47 PM

EROTICAFEST

At GigaCash, we can produce 100k events for a fraction of the cost, get branding and give out the booze provide the tits in your face and show appreciation to our webmasters. It's called leverage and it's a beautiful thing.

See you at ErtoticaFest. :winkwink:

XBizLori 07-21-2004 01:51 PM

The main reason we are throwing the XBiz Get Happy Hour http://xbiz.com/happy

is to create exposure and hopefully new business for the sponsors of the party by doing a contest where peeps hunt on sponsors sites to win a prize.

I would love to buy everyone a drink but if there is no return for us or sponsors, yes, then why do it.

Hope to see you all at the Get Happy Hour for some business and pleasure.

All things considered, I have to wonder if I am in the minority of people who don't go to shows just for the parties. Matter of fact, I rather much tend to avoid parties. I think I'm hitting two parties at Internext, and the bellyflop thing. Other than that, I'm there not only to socialize but to do business.

Do I have the wrong attitude here? Or am I just being a fuddy-duddy? :helpme

A belly flop contest is fun! But I'd like to see someone supply the crowd with dodgeballs... the crowd could try to nail the contestants during their flop. Now that would be funny to watch!

Speaking of dodgeball....since you aren't coming to Florida, will the dodgeball competition be held possibly at a later show? *pouts 'cause you're not coming to FL*

Actually, near the end of the contest I suggest a bunch of people throw the MC into the pool.

Maybe pants him first.
