How Many People Do You Allow To Have Root Access Codes To Your Servers?
This question is for webmasters and hosting company owners.
After seeing Rick's thread about National Net it really brings to mind how many people could gain root access to your servers if a hosting company has a lot of employees that have access to customer records or within your own company for that matter with all the techs that have access. :( |
One.
The person who is replying to this thread.. not worth the hassle to have any others with access. If root access is needed then its something that *I* need to know about. |
Only very close associates that I would trust with my life..
|
one too many in rick's case :1orglaugh
|
i keep my root password posted on my index page, that way i won't lose it
|
i only allow the closest of friends on my servers.
btw, KRL, you have much money. i wish for you to buy 20,000 mugs from be to support my freedom fight:) http://www.filmnoirdenver.com/images...alilamanew.JPG |
1 Person.. Me, and yes call me paranoid, it's changed weekly on 32 different servers
|
If the server is on the internet, there's always a danger of multiple people having root access. Gotta love exploits :feels-hot
|
As posted above, me.
I wouldn't let anyone else touch one of my servers, even the hosting company drones. |

Just me and Shok, but Shok just has access so he can post nudie pictures of himself w/o me having copies of them on my hard drive. :Graucho

makes you think how customer lists are stolen

myself and my business partner. However neither of us ever login as root, as we use sudo for everything. As you all should as well...on the off chance that you need root permissions, which in 99% of the time, you don't.
Course, I also run each virtual in a chroot'd jail...but I do security work for a living :) |
Me and my penis

Only me...and if I have a programmer work on something for me....I immediately change it after the job it finished
