4 out of 10 Canadian teens say America is a place of Evil in the world.

Fox News: According to a poll taken recently, 4 out of 10 Canadian teens say America is the main source of Evil in the world.

Thanks George Bush. Discuss.

StuartD 07-20-2004 05:04 PM

Didn't they do a poll like this a month or two ago?

Doesn't matter, it's still a perception and it comes from somewhere.

10/10 teens in Canada shouldn't even be thinking about the US at all.

Doesn't matter if anyone does or doesn't care what they think... the fact remains, they do think it... and there's a reason for it.

Not that I disagree, but why does Fox News care what Canadian teenagers think? Besides, every Canadian knows that Bush is the main source of evil in the world, not the entire United States.

Why?

I'll admit that it annoys me when I hear Americans go on and on about being "the most powerful nation in the world yadda yadda" .. but it's true that the US does have a lot of influence over people's lives .. even non-americans. And this is especially for Canadians, because we're under a lot of pressure to do this or that.

So why shouldn't teens be thinking about politics and the world around them?

being influenced and thinking about another country is two very different things.

What's to discuss, Canadians have always hated Americns.
Peter Jennings said his parents always hated America along with everyone else he knew.
They just stay pissed because we are a power house and don't understand socialism holds them back.
If we were to cut off imports tomorrow they would be standing in soup lines blaming the US the same way Castro does.

Canada accounts for fully 20% of your trade (Import + Export) and you run a TRADE DEFICIT with Canada.

I was born and raised in Canada. Believe me, most teens don't even know if Bush is a Republican or a Democrat. And if they ever get a job offer south of the border, they won't hesitate to accept it.

Maybe in Southern Ontario it is like this, but I don't think it is everywhere else..At least not where I was. Most people I know wouldn't take a job paying them 10 times more in USD than they were getting in CDN if it meant moving to the USD..

Would you take the job if it meant going somewhere you absolutely hate and and where your life expectency drops 3 years just by crossing an invisible line?
I mean I won't deny that I love money, but I don't love it that much

CamJack 07-21-2004 06:15 AM

Most Canadiens are fence sitters, but after living here and seeing all the crazyness from the outside......they do have a point on this one.

adjektiv 07-21-2004 06:17 AM

10 out of 10 Americans don't think about Canada at all.

Raf1 07-21-2004 06:21 AM

in Europe it would probably be 6/10 (maybe more). Bush is an idiot and the whole world can see it.

I'm a Texan living in Canada... and the U.S. looks a lot different from the outside. It appears to be a country whose policies are determined by greed, paranoia and egotism, and where "majority rule" has become "tyranny of the majority".

Some Canadians hate the U.S. Some don't think about it much. The ones who think, are aware that U.S. policies strongly affect the Canadian economy, as well as that of many other nations. The U.S. is, in fact, one of the most powerful nations in the world... probably the most powerful single nation, and has a population almost 10 times that of Canada.

CNN, many books and most movies in Canada come from the United States. Of course Canadians are going to think about the U.S. But does Canada need it? Not really. Technologically and agriculturally, the U.S. has nothing on Canada except dollars.

EviLSuperstaR 07-21-2004 07:34 AM

Yep... and the world shakes its collective head that Bush was allowed to take office and run things the way he has when he didn't even win the popular vote.

The idiot (my fellow Texan... I saw him once at a wedding) needs to realize that his job is to represent ALL the people of the U.S., not just the ones who voted for him.

Yeah, it is easier to pass the blame then accept responsibility.

yys 07-21-2004 08:34 AM

Here's an article I remembered reading from one of the guy's who commissioned this poll and what his experience being interviewed on Fox was like.

No, instead of saying "what are we doing to make so many people think we're evil?" you'd rather just say "their education system sucks."

Well, our education system hasn't changed in the past 4 years... and teens didn't think this way 4 years ago.

So if they didn't think the US was evil 4 years ago, and they do now, and the education system is the same.....

something else must be different.
