Canada Keeps Censoring Fox but OKs Al-Jazeera

Canada's increasingly strange government, which continues to censor Fox News Channel, has covertly approved the unleashing of the terrorists' favorite propaganda machine.

"The federal broadcast regulator made one of its most controversial decisions in recent years when it approved the digital distribution [Thursday] of the Arabic-language TV news network Al-Jazeera, although it did so without any public hearings," the Toronto Globe and Mail reported today.

When ya think that Al-Jazeera is probably "the" Middle East News Network and they broadcast more than just the news footage the US may not like - what the hell is the difference?

Fox is one of the top deviant news channels in the world - if not at number one on the rankings.

If a news channel broadcasts what is happening - literally - what's wrong with that? They may show a more regional angle, but Fox - and any other news channels over the globe do the same. What's wrong with showing the detail of the thousands who died in Iraq as well as the far fewer US troops?

Nothing is perfect - but Al-Jazeera ain't some "enemy"...

That's because, in comparison, Fox News makes Al-Jazeera look like fair, balanced and well-researched news.

AL Jazeera will be monitored

Al-Jazeera was banned in Middle Eastern countries because of it's attempt at fair journalism. I would be interested to see how they cover stories, actually. Maybe seeing the "war" from the occupied's perspective (instead of the occupier's) is what we need to really get Bush out of office?

Not banned, just censored. Just like they censor the woman-beatings out of the WWE shows on TSN. It's fine if she's wrestling, but if some guy just walks up to a woman and puts her through a table, they censor it out. I imagine the same kind of thing happens to Fox.

Fox News is a channel.. different than Fox.. How can you censore the Fox News Channel.. when everything is live.. ? Trust me .. NOTHING on Fox News is going to be censored... and would highly doubt that the channel has been banned by the CRTC .. it might be seen as propaganda.. but then, if they dont tolerate that.. the CRTC would need to close alot of radio stations and newspapers in canada...

The US media is paid for by advertising and the news organizations cannot afford to piss off their viewers or sponsors will pull their revenue. That's why you never see the civillian slaughter covered; now in the many tens of thousands. If they're not americans, it's not even mentioned here. That is really unusual in journalism. Try watching the BBC - they're on 'our side' and fighting with us and yet they still talk about more than only themselves.

CNN + BBC + Al-Jazeera = something approaching the whole picture of how things really are. I bet if you watched Al-Jazeera instead of listening to the xenophobes at FOX talk about Al-Jazeera, you'd be surprised at how fair they are to the western side.

You are joking right? CNN admited they sent bogus reports from Iraq for 7 years. The BBC had been caught how many times planting false stories? Al-Jazeera is the mouthpiece and courier for many of the bad guys. They are being sued by many families now.

canadians are balanced people, they like to hear both sides of the issue before going to the bar...

And why exactly do any Americans care what airs on Canadian television? Fox News sucks anyway.

Every one of you is missing the reasoning behind this.

Simply put, there is NO other middle eastern network here. They allowed them to broadcast (monitored) because it was filling a gap in Canadian programing.

The fox network was bringing nothing new to the table, just more of the same overplayed bunk newscasts that we have on 50 other networks.

A spanish, polish and few other "rarer" channels were also approved.

Now what will our neighbors to the north do without Ann Coulter?
