strobi 07-20-2004 01:30 PM

servermatrix are the best. Enough said.

zagi 07-20-2004 01:45 PM

Yea but its impossible or there is a huge catch like we put on a 10mbps port or cap the port at 10mbps.

Think about it a normal admin can get a 2.4 Ghz P4 + 512MB RAM upto 40mbps

You guys aren't even on cogent bandwidth that means your paying at the MINIMUM $30/mbit

So that's 40 x 30 = $1200

Sure not everyone will push this capacity but there is a catch. I dont think your business runs because so few ppl under utilize their allocation, its because its not really unlimited. What's the restriction?

cherrylula 07-20-2004 01:48 PM

uhoh another host with 3 posts spamming...

better watchout :Graucho

David! 07-20-2004 01:50 PM

Their normal ServerMatrix servers and their total control servers charge $0.50 / GB over and $0.75 /GB over respectively. In April I was caught with a $150 bill just in overages on my ServerMatrix server, prompting me to order a total control server.

The TC servers use SCSI drives and 100mbit interface .. and I'm pretty sure there's a big enough demand for that.. especially consdiering the performance increase I notice on my TC box compared to my ServerMatrix.

So add in overages on TC and regular server matrix servers .. and the fact that most people won't use *that* much on an unmetered server and that probably helps clear up their business plan.

tootie 07-20-2004 02:29 PM

Damn, I wish you'd had this offer two days ago :(

Magg 07-20-2004 02:45 PM

Their support isnt that great guys, and those servers arnt "unmetered bandwidth"

Theyre capped at 10Mbps, and theyre highly oversold...

This isnt that big of a deal, I could offer the same - but what kind of service would you expect at that pricing?

senseidru 07-20-2004 03:23 PM

What they havn't posted here is that these are 10mbps boxes and are cogent ONLY, unlike the rest of their network.

ServerMatrix 07-21-2004 11:37 AM

Thank you for all the nice comments. There are options for 10mbps, 15mbps or 20mbps.

? 10Mbps Unmetered - Standard
? 15Mbps Unmetered - Add $50
? 20Mbps Unmetered - Add $100

I think you should have said this upfront, when I saw that servermatrix was offering "unmetered" accounts with no mention of any limits I interpreted that as "unlimited transfer," which could mean the beginning of the end. :winkwink: (As an existing servermatrix customer this did concern me)

Now that we know it's just CAPPED cogent it's a different matter...

Manowar 07-21-2004 11:49 AM

ugh cogent

Yeah but for the price what do you expect ?

I still think it's a great deal. Though I wouldn't host anything critical on it. I bet you anything their #1 customer will be warez site owners .. but that's their problem.

Though I agree wtih rowan, they should be more upfront about it being cogent.

Thank you.

Still a good deal, but you should have stated this upfront. :2 cents:

Yeah, I added the $10 bucks to get a 100Mbps Uplink...

rj-x 07-21-2004 05:53 PM

While SM is a very reliable company. I believe these new 10mbit server are pure cogent bandwidth. With that please be advised this is not the best of quality stuff, but for the price, isn't all that bad.

I'm sorta a newb to the forum, but when it comes to the server end stuff I know my shite ;)

...

apparently im a slow poster too, rowan beat me to the punch...

rj-x 07-21-2004 06:03 PM

Oh and if anyone gets a server w/ cpanel or even plain linux, and wants some administration/management... i can work for pretty cheap ;)

Nysus 07-21-2004 06:15 PM

Ahh. I don't think it's a good idea to offer a service apart of a company that can only be offered at a lower quality. Why would anyone want to do that?

Cheers,
Matt

VeriSexy 07-21-2004 06:21 PM

That is a crazy ass deal :thumbsup

it's an unlimited line, so while it is of lesser quality, the quantity is potentially greater...

some people dont need extraordinary speeds and optimal routing, and just need something they can use without limits

so this would fit their needs

*shrug*
