SERVINT USER CHECK HERE + moving an Ip adress?
 

I recently got fucked by servint for my plan. I won't go into details, but let's just say I have to move.

I heard they were filing act 11, so I'd advice most of you to move .... could be rumors, but the fact that they went back on their words and asked me for twice as much money is enough proof for me... act 11 is a step towards bankruptcy for those who don't know.


One question I have is is it possible to get an ip moved from one provider to another? as while I was hosted on servint, I got a listing on yahoo with my IP adress... I would love to keep that IP adress to keep the hits, is it possible?

Sorry but IP numbers are almost always not portable, and even if if this one was (say 99.999% it's not) your old host would have to give you the whole class C to reroute. (like you might have a snowball's chance in hell http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/smile.gif ) You might think about keeping the account, and move your site somewhere else, and then just redirect the traffic off the IP. Go here: http://manage.opensrs.net/ add DNS entries of your new host now. That way, when you have to switch, it's going to be seemless. Let them know your comming in catastrophe mode, so they will help you mirror everything ASAP.

Well magnatique, looks like you will be going to write an email to Yahoo http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/smile.gif Yeah I know, that can turn out bad for you (they might just delete it right away) but if you're very friendly they nost likely will change it to the domain name for you. Just take care to get the site in good shape before you do it. I'd come up with something such as the whole IP block will be re-assigned to another host or so. Something more serious than you just beeing not satisfied anymore on that host. There is an application form for changes somewhere on the yahoo site.

While you're at it (and since it'll be risky anyway) you might as well try to first put another domain (a better one with more keywords in it) on that IP - if it corresponds with the title. The URL counts for the ranking too, not only title and description.

I kinda remember a form they had for modifying shit like that. (Its been so long since I submitted to them, it may no longer be available)
worth looking for though.
