Installed it on one of our laptops, it really improved the networking aspects of XP Pro, especially wireless access, things are a lot tighter and seem to work a lot better in SP2.

Yep been running various versions of SP2 since February.. Seems to make windows a lot more stable. Also the popup and activeX blockers are a godsend. Autoupdate is pretty cool too. Havent had to visit Windows update in months (other than when I wiped my hard drvie a month or so ago lol )

SmokeyTheBear 07-18-2004 03:07 PM

terrible terrible terrible.

heres 3 installs.

1st install worked fine
2nd install stalled and won't install regardless of how i try to install it ( manual piece by piece also stalls )
3rd install works, fucked up xp settings fucked up the registry and made for a hell of work.

Obviously theres no point in telling anyone NOT to install this pack, nor would i advise it.

But the first thing you should do before installing the FINISHED patch , is to backup your computer , make a copy of your registry , and make a restore point ( before xp does it for you )

Starting to sound that this update would work better or have less hassles if it was installed on a freshly formatted machine rather then chancing it on your daily workhorse. At the very least back the shit up like smokey mentioned if your planning to apply it to your main machine.

:2 cents:

ok first of all correct me if im wrong, but sp2 is still in its beta stages no? its not officially released...

i tried to install it about 2 weeks ago (a friend of mine told me it was awesome) and it does look good... but the fact is if its not broke, dont fix it

it for some reason crashed in the middle of the update and my computer fucked up BIG time

i lost a shitload of stuff had to format :321GFY

anyways... i suggest wait a couple of months till they get it working right

It is still in beta. Do NOT install it on a mission critical machine.

Tried it, runs fine. Active X and Pop up blockers are going to change the business models of a bunch of companies. If you PPC and pay the bills with pop up ads....that game is over.....if your income in generated by pop ups and exit traffic.....it appears those days are numbered.

And the one thing that hasn't been mentioned. From what I understand.this patch when in final production will auto update without the need for end user approval.......so when the script kiddies find a hole,,,,,,Microsoft will be able to patch everyone with little to no hassle.
