I've been looking into the same thing. Where I am now has cable, but I'm planning on moving soon and need some broadband.
I've checked out the Starband system, got 88k/sec (bytes not bits) download time (using MS bandwidth test) it looks like the one I'll go with. 400 bucks for the dish though, but that's 100 less then the other 2-way I've looked at. Anyone actually OWN one? |
Well guys I just spent 4 days helping a relative on the phone setup the Starband on his home network and what a fucking nightmare! They do not make networking easy on their system. I am having DirecPC install their new satellite bi-directional system here at my home next week and I will be able to offer an opinion on that as well. It better work better that networking Starband.

My girlfriend needs a broadband connection to work with me. ADSL will be in her city in May, but only for 5 neighborhoods. Sucks. For the others, maybe only till the end of the 2001. No radio connection there. Cable only in a few neighborhoods too. Sucks again.
StarOne and Vant Communications will start satellite broadband services here. I've sent a email to StarOne to be one of the first to test. Hope they start this thing soon. |
