Incorporating Advertisements on your Msgboard

My messageboard has just pushed 700 members after being up for 4 months and I'm wondering what's a sucessful method for presenting advertisements. Should I add text links, advertisement in post or sidebar, banners, dropdown menu? -- or should I wait all together until my msgboard is alittle more etablished & I have more members?

Anyways, any healthy advice would be appreciated :Graucho

I started a board recently and I run a banner ad in the header which displays on every page of the forum.
I manually change the ads,, otherwise try Php Ads New for a full rotation system that includes geo- targetted if you run a couple a sites with many ads to track and rotate.
BTW one of my other sites converts quite well with a header banner ad considering that it is a war forum/gallery and I promote Adult Friend Finder.

You might want to check out http://www.robgalbraith.com/ for ideas on how to present banner ads in message boards. Their approach is as follows:

Horizontal banner ads for the forum listings, topic listings, post message pages, and ads in the sidebar for posts.

I wouldn't put the ads directly in the posts.

This board also runs banner ads as well.
