How much bandwidth do I need??
As the newbie I am, Im still using a freehost. But ofcourse the thought has crossed my mind that I should get a pay host. The problem is that I dont have any idea about how much bandwidth I might need = how much it would cost.
Maybe some of you guys/girls could give me your examples, let me know these numbers bandwidth/visitors/storage, then I might could get an idea about this. Thanx! ------------------ ------------------------ Check it out BabeFever ------------------------ |

It really depends on what type of sites you are planning to develop...

fever, you have to do some calculations on your own here.
no. of daily visitors * the size of all files (html + graphics) residing on your site (in KiloBytes) = Maximal transfer for a day This is just a theoretical upper limit. Usually the surfer won't download all the files to his or her browser. As a rule of thumb, divide the result by two to get a hint of the actual bandwidth need. |
Here's the answer he's looking for.
10 k visitors equals around 1 gig, but of course it really depends though. 1 gig will cost you about 4 to 5 dollars. Quote:

I'll give you the scenerio on how I started when I moved to a pay host from a free host.
I moved a little at a time, so that I would have an idea on how much bandwidth to use. First I started on an "unlimited bandwidth" (shared-virtual) host then moved to a pay per bandwidth host, then from virtual to dedicated servers. Autson.com used to have a good deal 10 domains on a shared host 40 gig per month for 40 bucks a month, it might be more than that now, but that is a pretty good way to start, consider that you only have to sell 2-3 memberships in a month to pay for the hosting It won't do tgp traffic, but I would not suggest you do that unless you have really good experince with paid hosting for a number of months, then you can try opting for a more expensive plan |
