LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) -- Outspoken actress Whoopi Goldberg lost her Slim-Fast gig for agreeing to speak at a Democratic fundraiser.

Goldberg reportedly used the president's name as a sexual reference at a fundraiser for presumptive Democratic nominee John Kerry.

Goldberg has endorsed Democrats many times in the past and is known for her political views in her comedy routines. The actress released a statement saying, "While I can appreciate what the Slim-Fast people need to do in order to protect their business, I must also do what I need to do as an artist, as a writer and as an American -- not to mention as a comic. It's unfortunate that, in this country, the two cannot mesh."

The diet company Slim-Fast is located in Florida, where the last election was ultimately decided.

The company's official statement is: "We are disappointed by the manner in which Ms. Goldberg chose to express herself and sincerely regret that her recent remarks offended some of our consumers."

The fundraiser earned $7.5 million, but it's not clear how much weight Goldberg lost with Slim-Fast.

Since she was the spokesperson for Slim Fast I really don't think this has anything to do with freedom of speech.

You would probablly say that in America there would be absolutely no way that could happen, with all that yapping about freedom of speech & shit. Until you see this kind of shit on TV...

Weight Watchers fired her because some fat stay at home conservative wifes call weight watcher and threaten them with the usual.. Drop her or us conservative fatties of america will boycott you...

Freedom of Speech says the government can't do anything to her for criticizing the President.

It doesn't mean Slim-Fast can't.

Same reason (most) Message Boards can have moderators to delete and edit posts.

But IMHO, Slim-fast realized that the way she dresses in baggy clothes, nobody thought she was "slim" anyway and this gave them an excuse to fire her. :thumbsup

Ok forget whether you love Bush or Kerry.
Slim Fast caters to overweight people.
Overweight people are Democrats and Republicans. and any other political affiliations.
Whoopi, who I like as a comedian by the way, represents Slim Fast.
As a comedian, I'm pretty sure Slim Fast was aware that sometimes she can be quite crude in her humor.
However, when you represent a brand you have to be careful about what you say, she was hired as some kind of spokeswoman.
When she goes on a Bush rampage using foul language, she is making half of Slim Fast users furious.
As a business, Slim Fast cannot afford hiring a celebrity that will alienate half of its customer base. It is plain and simple business.
Now, by the way, the owner of Slim Fast is one of the biggest donator to the Democratic party :2 cents:

This is not quite true. Executives of the company who now own Slim Fast donate more to Republicans than Democrats.

The guy who sold Slim Fast four years ago, and who still has a roll at the company, donates more to Democrats than Republicans.
