Stop Educating Surfers...

It's going to backfire in the end.

No need to tell them how easy it is to cancel a free trial after signing up.
No need to put links called "$$ Click here to earn big cash$$ at the bottom of ever tgp hoping for referal cash.

List goes on

Nightnday 07-17-2004 08:19 AM

There are 2 kinds of people: The one who offers, and the one who say's NO!

2 STUPIDS!!!!

As a surfer, I completely agree with Trax. I've noticed that most, if not almost all, adult webmasters are amongst the most unprofessional people I've ever come across. I get the impression it's all about a quick $ and nothing else.
If only there were less scammers and people just out for a quick $ then the legitimate webmasters would make much more.
It seems that in general, the adult biz is not for people with brains or ethics.

If you give the surfer the impression that he is just a cash cow he will probably not give you his money.

If you have 20k traffic daily on your site, you should see that as 20.000 costumers who are looking for porn and YOUR job is to make them pay.

Some people just dont understand this business.

Lane 07-17-2004 10:41 AM

I think surfers have a right to know how to cancel

I agree with the second one though

there are two kinds of people in this industry - idiots who don't have a product and need to survive on billing tricks, and those who have a real product and dont' fuck the surfer around.

those of us with a real product will CONTINUE to educate the surfer till those of you who survive on billing tricks are forced out of the game.

i hope it's a painful death for you.

And if you surf a site like the hun what motivation is there to pay? I mean not only do I get a site that has MILLIONS of archive pics and movies of FRESH HARDCORE content but I know that the galleries I see are going to have a minimum of advertising any any links I click will be pop-up free.

Color me stupid but FREE porn should be crappy and hard and painful to view. The advantage of a pay site should be that you get FRESH CONTENT that you won't get for free and lack of pop-ups and banner farms and other forms of annoying advertising.

Funny how back in the days when TGPs allowed galleries with over used crappy sponor content with loads of banners and pop-ups people made more money. Hmm wonder why?

I've been a surfer for 5 years and I have a few fresh ideas for sites so I'm learning the biz, bit by bit.

The motivation to pay is this: Access to large, crystal-clear images in series larger than 10 or 20. Photos you can't find anywhere else (for free) of that woman who's the absolute hottest thing you've ever seen. And, as you stated, less advertising.

You're right though; sales were better when TGP owners ENCOURAGED the use of low-res photos, smaller pics, etc. I still do, although I do prefer a nice design for the galleries I list.

I can get all the hi-res pics I could ever need to jack off on any numerous TGPs. Consider most TGPS make it a REQUIRMENT that content BE FRESH and HIGH QUALITY( meaning NEW which means having to PUCHASE it ). fuck that shit. Surfers should PAY for fresh quality content. Even mainstream sites are getting this.

Dagwolf 07-17-2004 11:27 AM

I believe that if a gallery has a nice design (is a quality full=page ad) and the surfer finds the ads more interesting than the photos, he/she will click the ads. Maybe even if he knows where to get a lot of pics for free.

Seems the other way around. Mainstream has stopped giving out good shit for free. Let me know when that happens in THIS industry.

hydro 07-17-2004 11:56 AM

disagree with #1. They should know how to cancel without jumping through hoops.

Billing tricks are the cause of Visa dropping the chargeback ratio. It discredits our inustry :(

Yep. I really can't blame any cc company for not wanting to carry such high risk transactions.

The real problem is that 80% of that traffic is 15 years and younger.

you got me wrong / i didnt write it that well
on #1 i did not mean to support shady billing tactics
when i wrote that i remembered a rather big link list who had an article about "The secret of cheap porn"

It was a tutorial on how easy and safe it is to join and cancel a membership all within less than 5 minutes.

I heavily dislike shady billing tactics, XX pre-checked crosssales on join pages and a like... but I don't understand why webmasters have to explain their surfers how smart it is to cancel a membership before even seeing the members area

thats what I originally had in mind

#2 is correct

It's happening day by day - website by website.
Juicy - the entire adult industry is maturing.

"Porn" is going mainstream.

The days of the "summer school kids" in the industry are reducing.

How much you want to bet on Sleazy's paysite(s) [assuming he actually has one worth two shits] don't educate the surfer on how to cancel?

I'll bet he has it through a small "customer service" or some tiny link at the bottom somewhere. That's not educating, that's providing a means.

Only an idiot would actually educate the surfer about cancellations, a wise man would only provide a reasonable means to terminate a membership. You educate your surfer on how to cancel and you kill your rebills. You provide a reasonable means and you don't end up with chargebacks. :2 cents:

Now who's the idiot? :)

The people who like to "educate" are usually the webmasters who are not using Revshare but PPS. Their "education" is not for the customers benefit but for their own. The ones I have seen encourage people to sign up for free or $1 trials and then cancel right away, and sign up for another one a couple days later. This way, the surfer keeps coming back to this guys site, signing up for free, full access trials and then cancelling right away. The webmaster makes a killing on repeat business and that is his goal. Webmasters like that are only in it for the quick buck and they don't give a damn about the long term

I believe the people discussed are paysite owners..
for paysite owners it's always revshare :2 cents:

Good for them and you. By the way I never said you couldn't make money from the Hun. I sugested that you could make MORE under the old ways. Once again just an opinion and still didn't require you to be an ass towards me, but that's OK. From what I've read about you on these boards, that's par for the course.
