Minimum right for Martha
 

Should she really go to jail for this ? I know in my country she would get community service not jail. Jail terms for this type of crime just costs us taxpayer more money she should have to do 1000 hours charity work instead.

Yes, she really should go to PRISON for this. She isn't being punished for acting on the stock tip. Only an idiot wouldn't have acted on it. She is, however, being punished for lying to the grand jury about getting the tip.

Perhaps those responsible for covering up the Enron fiasco should all be let go too? Fuck that.

I honestly feel she got off pretty light. 5 months in "lock up" then 5 months locked up in her mansion and a 30,000 dollar fine.

Martha's big problem was donating a lot of money to the Democratic Party - if she had donated to Republicans instead, she'd be fine right now.

americans havea different concept of prison. they see it as "punishment." when the rest of the wolrd sees prison as a place to rehabilitate and house people who are a danger to society.

i agree with the latter. martha stewart is NOT a danger to society, she hasnt shown herself to be a pedophile or a murderer. She doesnt belong in prison. This also extends to any other non-violent offense in my opinion.

Nah, I don't think a jail term is necessary. Keeping someone in jail is extremely expensive and I think justice would be better served if they fined the hell out of her.
