I am in the process of moving. I ended up getting a new place is False Creek, right beside Granville Island, Definately not cheap but worth every penny.
I would recommend these areas: West End/Downtown West Vancouver Take a look here: http://homes.canada.com/vancouver/br...y.aspx?id=3134 |

Are you sure these houses are in Canada and not the Southern USA?

damm MaskedMan, that's an awesome view,,,I know pretty much right where that is, I've been there to eat a few times...although I'm thinking I'd fit in more with the houses on wheels section of town ;)

if you gots wheels youll find descent places that are low crime and low drug infested in Port moody or Coquitlam :2 cents:
Surrey has its share of crime I'd say... |

Vancouver's west end :thumbsup
|
i lived all around vancouver if you have a good budget to spend hands downtown your looking atleast 1K for apt 1bedroom :)
Kits Westside :) always nice of course , if you have less than 1K to spend for rent there are still lots of places in other areas of the city . Good Place to Look is the VancouverSun Classified i forgot the site but do a search its quite easy I would NEVER live in Surrey :2 cents: |
I've got a place in North Van and a few places in Surrey and Coquitlam. SOME parts of Surrey and Coquitlam are nice though Coquitlam is closer to VanCity (it all depends on how often you need to go to VanCity). VanCity has more than it's share of scuzzy places(unless you wanna pay $2000+ for a decent place) so I would recomend one of the burbs.:2 cents:

I have to visit the ranch in August, I'll be down there for a week mid August :thumbsup |
Central Park in Burnaby is nice..close to Metro town and skytrain and fairly reasonable.
|
west van is nice if you don't mind all the faggots
it was about 800 a couple years ago for a 1 bdrm apt so its prob close to 1k now.. . |

(Just curious, I'm not gonna move my house into your backyard or anything). |
all the lots here are owned...
you just have to make sure that your place is above the high water mark.... |
I live on Vancouver Island and it's still pretty close to the city (60 minute ferry ride, not a bad commute), but much cheaper and a safer neighbourhood. You can rent a 3 or 4 bedroom house here with a view for $1200/m. Just depends on how urban you want to be. Hit me on ICQ, I'd be happy to help your search in any way :)

With all due respect to those here advocating living in the "burbs" to save a few bucks or whatever, you are delusional if you can't see hundreds of superior lifestyle reasons to live right downtown in the West End or Kits.
If you have come all this way to the west coast, why not actually be near the ocean instead of some burb that looks and feels like any other burb of any other city in Canada. It is not really that much more to live right across the street from the ocean/Stanley Park/seawall/sandy beach/awesome street scenes with tons of bars and restaurants/entertainment... than 40 miles from away so why not just live where all the action and culture is. Its less crowded than the suburbs with the traffic jams and strip malls and car culture and gas stations on every major intersection and big malls and all the other rancid experiences of living in suburbs. I bet there are more leafy green streets with less crime and friendlier people than any suburb you care to point out too. |
