Projection TV?

Anyone else have a home theater setup? I just got a Sony HDTV projector in today and can't wait to set it up this weekend.

Gemini 04-13-2001 01:04 PM

*sigh* just a 27" with home theatre and dual deck vhs. No big powered woofer or dvd tho. Let alone a projection tv!

Have fun and let us know how it is. Years ago they were poor rez so they should be great by now!

titmowse 04-13-2001 01:13 PM

get some speakers!! lots of HUGE black speakers and connect everything up to your amp(s).
Even my pc is hooked up to the tv and amps(3 of them) - a total of 16 speakers for Team Fortress to explode out of on a 28" screen.

My neighbours love me really http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/smile.gif

ElvisTG 04-13-2001 11:16 PM

Yea, yea. One day the world will learn that Sony isn't the best you can get.

Try Vidikron next time, that's the nice stuff http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/smile.gif

We have 3 TVs here, 2 are 20" and 1 is only 14" (no space for biggers).
A 50" TV here in Brazil is about USD$ 3000... how much it costs in US ?

Lensman 04-16-2001 11:55 AM

The progressive scan is great, no lines at all.

And my screen is 96".

Gemini 04-16-2001 12:10 PM

Whoo! Wouldn't it been easier to just buy a theatre?!?!

oscer 04-16-2001 12:59 PM

I got myself a humble home theater too. I am a big Sony fan too, so natually I got a nice 28" Sony tv (no HDTV though), Sony Amp with DD5.1, DTS and the works and 5 speakers + sub. I finally got a Sony DVD player too last month (been using a Playstation2 for DVD's until then), so the setup is complete at least for now.

What is the difference between HDTV and normal tv's anyway ? I heard that the resolution is much better but that most programs and movies don't support the format and will look the same as on standard tv's. Even DVD movies are too low-res to support HDTV so they have to come up with a replacement for DVD to take full advantage of the new standard http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/frown.gif

chris_davis 04-17-2001 06:50 AM

Fraid I can't compete with Lens, but I have a 53"

Cool thing is I have one of my computers tied into it. I bought a wireless keybord and mouse and I fuck around on the computer sitting in my recliner in the living room.

Wish it was that comfy here at the office!

I think Mitsubishi Makes the Best tv's in the world, and Nothing beats a Picture tube.....

Lens you need to buy the bass vibrators that go in the couch pillows so they work with the subs.... You have never felt bass untill you get those..

evildick 04-17-2001 03:13 PM

I think Lensman is talking about a front projector, not a TV. I looked at some of them, but I couldn't afford anything with a decent picture. The LCD ones were cheap but the blacks were too washed out for my liking. The good DLP and CRT ones were way out of my price range. I settled with a HDTV ready Sony 53 inch TV, which is puny compared to a projector, but it's got a decent picture for my room size.

I'm getting a HDTV decoder this month, even though there's only one HDTV channel on satellite so far. I'll probably be stuck sitting at home watching the high definition PBS loop over and over again. But it'll have a dam nice picture!

evildick 04-17-2001 03:16 PM

Hey SNOW, Mitsubishi used to make nice direct view TV's, but now all they make are rear projection sets. They got out of the direct view tube market a few years ago.

JJJ 04-17-2001 03:59 PM

That's an odd statement because Mits doesn't make tube TVs.

Best tube TV: Toshiba 34" widescreen
Best projection: Pioneer Elite

ElvisTG 04-18-2001 10:52 PM

oh, and the best front projection is the Vidikron Vision 1 (so damn cool, but so damn expensive).

Interesting how a recent post by SD mirrored this thread exactly. I guess its still a current issue after all.

Yea i got a 55" Philips digital projector TV, it was clearer than the others i was looking at about 2 years, Fackin awsome when you connect a PS2 to it, movies without saying!

Also there is a nice hole in the front you could insert a plastic vigina (The vigina tourch) into it if you were that way inclined!

Could be a new niche!

MattO 12-15-2003 10:06 AM

I have a 3M projector that I used to use to project on the side of the building next to me in Manhattan, on 4th and Bway, the picture would be about 3 stories tall. Big fun.

Yngwie 12-15-2003 10:07 AM

I have a 36" Sony Wega (will get a bigger TV maybe in a few months) hooked up to a..

Denon AVR-3802 reciever (will upgrade to a Denon AVR-5803 as soon as possible)

2 Cerwin Vega LS-12 (main front speakers)
1 Cerwin Vega E-76c (center)
2 Cerwin Vega E-706 (surrounds speakers)
2 Cerwin Vega E-76c (back surround used for Dolby Digital 6.1)
1 Cerwin Vega LW-12 (sub woofer) - used to have another sub (Cerwin Vega HT-10) but I gave it to my brother when I moved out.

There is better then what I have but it still kicks major ass :)

oh and Sony is good when it comes to tvs but Sony speakers are pure fucking garbage

Hooper 12-15-2003 10:56 AM

I've got a home theater Lens. Sony HD Projector of some kind, 110" firehawk screen, some fancy german brand of speakers to create the surround, power conditioners all the works.

It's nice to have if you prefer to avoid the movie theater.

Mr Pheer 12-15-2003 10:59 AM

I have an Integra DLV-100 dlp projector and a 100 inch screen.
Using a JVC progressive scan dvd player with optical audio out to the dolby reciever and the usual 5 speaker / 1 subwoofer setup. The video out goes to a viewsonic video processor which converts the output from the dvd player to 1024x768p resolution, which is my projector's native resolution.

The result: no pixels showing, no scan lines, no "screen door" effect, and no artifacting or "aliasing"

Keep in mind that even the best projector is only as good as the signal going to it. Run your stuff thru a video processor to get the best image quality.

Mr Pheer 12-15-2003 11:01 AM

ah fuck this was a 2 year old thread

who is the fucking cocksucker that keeps bumping these?!

Yngwie 12-15-2003 11:04 AM

I didn't even notice that the thread was 2 years old lol.. Seems there have been a lot of old threads that have been bumped lately
