Is there a double standard in the industry?
Why does it seem ok for a male webmaster or affiliate rep to get drunk, show skin, suck boobs, fuck anything that shows interest, etc..... and he is considered cool or "the man" but if a female webmaster or affiliate rep does the same she is considered a skank?
Does that change your perception of the company if it is a male or female rep you deal with? Not in my eyes... how can a male affiliate rep that gets drunk and fucks anything help me convert better than a female that doesn't? The shows are about having some fun and doing some business. We all spend a lot of time behind a damn screen and need a release. We all can get out of control.... I know I did in Vegas during the Hawg's poker party.... thanks to Lens and Eric bringing me Cognac... I was trashed and make no excuse to anyone, and apologized to those involved for my condition. I have read too many times where a male has gotten out of control and he is considered cool....but if it was a female, she is considered a skank. I know both men and women in this industry that drink and don't drink at all, but what they do at a convention doesn't change what I think about them, I treat them for who they are and what they can do to make me more money. We all have our moments. If they did something I considered unacceptable, I would take it up with them before deciding not to deal/talk/do business with them. The boards are a great place but not for one on one problems IMO. I am not pointing any fingers but just a general perception from the threads I have read. IMO men are bigger sluts than women cause they feel the need to feed the ego and be accepted by their peers. Me ..... I don't care what people think cause I can look in the mirror and be happy with what I see. |
it is good to be king

Isn't that just a double standard period, not only this industry...

There will always be people around to critisize people, male or female, for candid behavior.
I personally do not care. Mellowman said it best, stay sober / decent while in the earlier hours of the night and get business done; when late night rolls around and you are with people you know well or get a good vibe from, it can be ok. I got overly drunk once at a show, I assure you my critics left me know slack for being a male. |

He even stole my tacos the night of the Nat Net party afterhours when I had a few drinks in me. And Lori, I think you had something to do with that! |
Double standard? No. Personally I could care less what sex is making a fool of themselves and if I don't know him/her, I form an opinion.
A convention is different from parting with friends; strangers are involved and you just might want their business. And, if you act like a slut (male/female) that pretty business card is going nowhere unless it is for cheap content. |

And, for the record, I do not mean that in a derogatory manner at all! |
I hate the idea that there is a double standard in this business but I'm sure there is. I never thought different of female webmasters when they get crazy. Its all in good fun
|
To change the levity of the thread for a sec I don't care who my account rep is as long as they're there when I need them.:glugglug

Yes there is a double standard. But it is not unique to this industry.
|
I think unprofessional behaviour is innappropriate in that circumstance regardless of the person's sex. Who wants to do business with some yahoo who's a drunk, coked up loser making an ass of him/herself? Having a few drinks and a little fun is one thing but just because we work in Adult Entertainment doesn't mean we aren't business professionals.

I think it should be up to individuals to decide for themselves....
I know call me crazy |

Would I hire her as a nanny for my kids....hell no! Do people that WORK with her say that she is good at what she does? YES! That's the bottom line isn't it? I mean, do you really know what your stock broker does in his/her private life? Or your childs teacher? Or your bank manager? Get my point? Just because some people are OPEN about who they are at ADULT parties does not make them any less business savvy! |
oh shit...this is some heavy and serious discussion goin on in here
Ciao...you won't see me here again |

while i don't remember specific names, i know that those who went to the webmaster event in Santa Monica and the last Internext got called out for doing stupid stuff...and they were all males....

Someone said "we can all get out of control..." Maybe so. And if you do so on your own time and in your personal space, no-one need be any the wiser. But male or female, sponsor or affiliate, whatever: getting out of control in a business-related situation is unprofessional. I would seriously doubt the apparent "business savvy" of anyone who doesn't realize that. |

Isn't the only problem with female reps acting like drunk drama queens?
I don't recall male reps showing this kind of behavoir. |
