Is there a double standard in the industry?

Why does it seem ok for a male webmaster or affiliate rep to get drunk, show skin, suck boobs, fuck anything that shows interest, etc..... and he is considered cool or "the man" but if a female webmaster or affiliate rep does the same she is considered a skank?

Does that change your perception of the company if it is a male or female rep you deal with? Not in my eyes... how can a male affiliate rep that gets drunk and fucks anything help me convert better than a female that doesn't?

The shows are about having some fun and doing some business. We all spend a lot of time behind a damn screen and need a release.

We all can get out of control.... I know I did in Vegas during the Hawg's poker party.... thanks to Lens and Eric bringing me Cognac... I was trashed and make no excuse to anyone, and apologized to those involved for my condition.

I have read too many times where a male has gotten out of control and he is considered cool....but if it was a female, she is considered a skank. I know both men and women in this industry that drink and don't drink at all, but what they do at a convention doesn't change what I think about them, I treat them for who they are and what they can do to make me more money.

We all have our moments. If they did something I considered unacceptable, I would take it up with them before deciding not to deal/talk/do business with them. The boards are a great place but not for one on one problems IMO.

I am not pointing any fingers but just a general perception from the threads I have read.

IMO men are bigger sluts than women cause they feel the need to feed the ego and be accepted by their peers.

Me ..... I don't care what people think cause I can look in the mirror and be happy with what I see.

I am not sure I can even count the number of times I have tried to set up something with you . . . primarily because I don't remember all of them . . . but it has been a few.

There will always be people around to critisize people, male or female, for candid behavior.

I personally do not care. Mellowman said it best, stay sober / decent while in the earlier hours of the night and get business done; when late night rolls around and you are with people you know well or get a good vibe from, it can be ok.

I got overly drunk once at a show, I assure you my critics left me know slack for being a male.

If I am ever drunk, rest assured, MFM had something to do with it.

He even stole my tacos the night of the Nat Net party afterhours when I had a few drinks in me. And Lori, I think you had something to do with that!

SureFire 07-14-2004 09:09 PM

Double standard? No. Personally I could care less what sex is making a fool of themselves and if I don't know him/her, I form an opinion.

A convention is different from parting with friends; strangers are involved and you just might want their business. And, if you act like a slut (male/female) that pretty business card is going nowhere unless it is for cheap content.

Isn't that what this business is built on? Sluts?

And, for the record, I do not mean that in a derogatory manner at all!

EZRhino 07-14-2004 09:25 PM

I hate the idea that there is a double standard in this business but I'm sure there is. I never thought different of female webmasters when they get crazy. Its all in good fun

mardigras 07-14-2004 09:33 PM

To change the levity of the thread for a sec I don't care who my account rep is as long as they're there when I need them.:glugglug

Groove 07-14-2004 09:33 PM

Yes there is a double standard. But it is not unique to this industry.

Kassidy 07-14-2004 09:34 PM

I think unprofessional behaviour is innappropriate in that circumstance regardless of the person's sex. Who wants to do business with some yahoo who's a drunk, coked up loser making an ass of him/herself? Having a few drinks and a little fun is one thing but just because we work in Adult Entertainment doesn't mean we aren't business professionals.

Joesho 07-14-2004 09:38 PM

I think it should be up to individuals to decide for themselves....

I know call me crazy

My point exactly.... but there are many pics of men in this industry that are considered "cool"... even with their exploites during conventions that would put females in the tramp catagory

Nope... A slut does it for free. A professional knows how to make money in this business.

Considered cool by whom? In this place & business, everyone's an asslicker - if they can get something from you, they'll defend you, pretend to like you, and make you out to be the top-notch person. When something is leaked out about you - they drop you like a hot potato & then 'they always knew there was something about you that wasn't kosher'.

This is 7th grade revisited - been there done that. Everyone wants to be cool & accepted and they follow the crowd.

Well, for the sake of argument, I will use Mary as my example.

Would I hire her as a nanny for my kids....hell no! Do people that WORK with her say that she is good at what she does? YES! That's the bottom line isn't it? I mean, do you really know what your stock broker does in his/her private life? Or your childs teacher? Or your bank manager? Get my point?

Just because some people are OPEN about who they are at ADULT parties does not make them any less business savvy!

reynold 07-14-2004 10:10 PM

oh shit...this is some heavy and serious discussion goin on in here

Someone said "we can all get out of control..."

Maybe so. And if you do so on your own time and in your personal space, no-one need be any the wiser. But male or female, sponsor or affiliate, whatever: getting out of control in a business-related situation is unprofessional.

I would seriously doubt the apparent "business savvy" of anyone who doesn't realize that.

I was talking about conventions and not parties. At a convention, one should represent themselve as a professional even at a sponsor party. JMO :)

if you dont send me traffic i would just as soon would poo on you

so im unprofessional and i have to poop.

its great to be your own boss!

embrace it!

kush 07-15-2004 01:45 AM

Isn't the only problem with female reps acting like drunk drama queens?

I don't recall male reps showing this kind of behavoir.
