Fun with Gothic hackers or could somebody tell me WTF these people are doing?
 

So there is a particular site which spammed the chatbox and forums on one of our sites relentlessly. Eventually they were told to cut it out. The supposed owner of the site claimed it was not him spamming and he had no idea about it. Anyway, leaving out a long complex and dull story about other people's weird hidden business structures . . .

My issue is that the site that was told to stop spamming has been showing up in my referrers. They have no links to any of my sites. But a number of my sites have one hit from their root URL on every single HTML page.

What does this mean they are doing? It can't be good, but I can't tell how bad I might be being punk d

It could be a bot with a spoofed referrer to look like their root URL. Why they'd do that I haven't a clue.

Would a referrer like that show up if they had a bot doing something other than just sending a fake hit to my pages?

what kind of logs are you looking at? With server logs you can usually tell what's going on. Maybe you could post a few lines of the log here and see if anyone can interperet it.

Sadly all I've got to look at is wusage which basically just shows this site's root url as a referrer to each of my html pages with one hit. Any log thing I should hit folks up for and see if they can give me the text of?
