The aftermath (pics)

I posted this thread last night. Holy Jeebus!

I went outside with my digital camera thinking in the last light of the day I could get a good pic or two. This is what I saw.

http://www.freakmanor.com/storm/rotation1.jpg

Nice rotation in the clouds there. Diggin it.

About this time the wind starts picking up and I think it best to head inside, grab cats and shove them in their kennel. That done, dogs already in their kennel, the husband and I head for the tub to wait this out.

It is at this point that I hear what sounds like thunder, but the husband says sounded like a breaking sound mixed in with the winds.

Power goes out.

I step out of the bathroom carefully to look around and see what's going on outside.

Needless to say, with the wind still blowing hard enough to make me move against my will, I headed back inside to wait it out. Freaky shit.

angelsofporn 07-14-2004 09:22 AM

Tom_PMs 07-14-2004 09:22 AM

Damn thats nasty... Mother Nature can be such a bitch!

Glad you're ok. Hope thats not your car.. or if it is.. that it's ok. Then again, better car than house!

Tala 07-14-2004 09:23 AM

So now i have a tree on my car. Fun times. We're lucky: a few feet to the left and it would have gone through my kitchen window. :eek2

http://www.freakmanor.com/storm/morning1.jpg

The winds tore off the top halve of two trees, one landing right where my dog would have been if we hadn't brought her in, and the other hitting my car. This is what the top of the tree looks like:

Fun times. Waiting now for the insurance agent to get here to do a damage report so I can get this damn tree off my car and out of my way.

No problem. I'm a weather junkie, but not suicidal. I only took pics when I knew I wouldn't get myself killed. :thumbsup

Hehehehe,

Cool pic's... And nice story :thumbsup

Tala 07-14-2004 09:29 AM

Thanks everyone. The damage reports around the county are still coming in, two fatalities reported. :(

However, they're saying that this was not a tornado. Instead, it's a result of a straight-line wind gust clocked at 89 mph. :eek2

strobi 07-14-2004 09:29 AM

nice pics! looks like a nice storm:)

TweetyBird 07-14-2004 09:33 AM

Tala 07-14-2004 09:39 AM

Incidentally, just to give a little perspective on things, if you look at the first picture up top, you'll see a tree on the lefthand side. That's the tree that's on my car now. :helpme

My goodness!!! I am glad you and your hubby and all the animals are ok. Cars and material things can be replaced.

Now the red tape of the insurance company begins... good luck!

So far, the funniest thing that's happened with the insurance company is them telling me that I don't have a verifiable policy with them.

So wtf did I pay the $497 for?? :ak47:

italianninja 07-14-2004 10:16 AM

at least you are ok.

Tala 07-14-2004 10:42 AM

It just occurred to me: I hope no one's been trying to call. It's been a telephone madhouse here today. :(

gazool 07-14-2004 10:52 AM

Damn that's crazy... When it's storming here in the DK, I can still blow soap bubbles... :)
