Wohoo, this is exciting!

Yes I'm such a geek :1orglaugh

Theo 07-13-2004 05:52 PM

finally a version that can handle my skills!

whee 07-13-2004 05:59 PM

Nothing REALLY excites me in this new version. :1orglaugh

fr8 07-13-2004 06:01 PM

I still know people that code in v3. Its funny. Maybe this version will make them upgrade.

Jonathan Quarkschowski 07-13-2004 06:03 PM

always great to get the geeks to upgrade straight away, I normaly give it a couple of month until the bug fixes come out.

whee 07-13-2004 06:04 PM

safe_mode = off

:Graucho

It needs to turn into pure OOP, i hate making big projects in PHP. I would be happy to make everything with J2EE and JSP if the fucking development inviroments wheren't such a pain in the ass to set up.

BradM 07-13-2004 06:06 PM

Just one more step to php becoming more and more Java-like every day.

Nothing. If I wasn't so damn lazy I would finish studying and take my certification test.

Gotta love the language.

I've been running PHP/5.0.0RC2 ever since it's been relieased. i'm loving it. but i agree, it should be tested thoroughly before migrating to large production environments.

some old code will not work correctly with the new release. :warning

Cool... I still write my code so it can work on V3. :1orglaugh

Can it be compiled yet?

Yup... I personally like the SQL and XML features of V.5 and the OOP is nice of course.

Geeks built and run the net, be proud. We all need something.

Arty 07-13-2004 07:55 PM

Nice :thumbsup

The bad thing is I can't start coding exclusively for php5 yet. All my (Current & future) clients needs to upgrade first...

Ash@phpFX 07-13-2004 10:50 PM

i have only dabbled in php5 so far, but i like it, some good improvements

AMADude 07-13-2004 11:13 PM

Anything that is "just released" is not a good idea to use on mission critical apps.
Wait a bit.
:2 cents:

New Zend scripting engine (second version).

A lot of new OOP features, it's very similar to java in that aspect now.

New extensions and libraries.

PHP also now comes with sqlite by default. Very efficient small-scale, file based database, that doesnt require any database application demon to run like mysql.

Some major changes are listed here: http://www.php.net/zend-engine-2.php
