My Reply To The NaughtyBank Banner Drama
 

There?s been a lot said regarding my NaughtyBank banners over the last couple of weeks. I?d like to take a moment to address this issue.

Here?s the situation: You?re a small amateur site and you don?t have the advertising budget or resources of a larger corporate sponsor program. You can?t really entice potential affiliates with offers of $100.00 PPS, 100% revshare, or give away a Ferrari. What you do have is incredible retention and conversion ratios, now all you need to do is come up with a creative way to gain some exposure for your program.

You need to think outside the box to come up with a way to capture the attention of potential affiliates in order to maximize your advertising dollar and achieve the greatest possible ROI. You make a tactical decision to use a provocative audio clip and allow it to continue playing even after ?mouse out?. The marketing plan is to swap out the banners with ones that stop the audio on ?mouse out? shortly after the initial flurry of anticipated exposure.

The plan works great and new affiliate sign-ups start rolling in over the first couple days of your campaign. Now here?s the dilemma, just as things start to quiet down on the board and you?re about to swap out your ?annoying? banners someone else comes along and starts another thread about the subject. Once again even more affiliates are signing up for NaughtyBank due to this additional publicity.

Each time the exposure begins to wane someone else starts yet another thread on the same topic (as many as 12 threads on the front page at one point). Everytime time a new thread is started you open up Outlook and sit back and watch the affiliate sign-ups roll in. Now, I ask you this: Would you swap out the banner right away?

Before you answer this question, think about the industry in which we all work. We?re not selling girlscout cookies! Take a look up at the top of this page, I think it says ?GoFuckYourself! Think about other banners you?ve seen/heard on here! I don?t recall the ?I?m a sweaty little cock holster? program owners being personally attacked for the way they chose to implement their advertising campaign. I don?t believe they were called, hahahaha (Veterans Day), piece of shit (AVM), pathetic twat (Equinox), godamn whore (iwantchixx), etc. I could continue but I think you get the idea.

Trust me, I?m certainly not crying about being called a few names. My point is simply that this is the same group of people who are claiming that my marketing practices are unprofessional, unethical, etc. That strikes me as being slightly hypocritical. If you start or post to a thread titled ?NaughtyBank Sucks?, on a webmaster board called ?GoFuckYourself?, and you insert a graphic of a hand flipping me off and saying ?Fuck You?, then please DO NOT expect that I respond in a professional manner.

Having said all that, I will be the first to admit that my efforts to gain exposure for my program certainly pushed the boundaries of what would be considered acceptable, even for a site called GoFuckYourself. I let the banners run on GFY for far too long, regardless of how many affiliates were signing up each time a new thread was started about them.

It certainly wasn?t my intent to embarrass people who work in a professional office environment, blast the ear drums of those who listen to music while surfing, or expose younger ones to profanity. As of now, I?ve changed out my banners for ones with NO audio while I revisit the merits of running them with audio that stops playing on mouseout.

Regardless of how you feel about my banners it should be noted that Jake and I run our webmaster program in a very professional manner. I?m quite sure that anyone who?s ever met or conducted business with Jake and I will attest to the fact that their dealings with us have been nothing but professional.

I have to back Jake and Allie up on this one. They are great people and have been nothing but professional in every dealing I have ever had with them.

I know its effective but its annoying too. Its a relatively close balance that needs to be decided on whether to keep the banners and annoy certain webmasters or keep getting as many affiliates as possible. That being said, I had to disable flash from my IE because I can't have orgasm sounds coming out of my PC unexpectantly when I'm on the phone or when someone crosses my office. While the banners never really bothered me, I can't have the sounds going off at my office without getting people looking at me funny. My 2cents...

Really doesn't matter to me either way. Turning off Flash has greatly improved my overall GFY experience. Thanks for the encouragement. :)

We dont care about how well that banner is working for you.. If you do something to piss people off but continue anyway because its successful.. fine.. but be prepare to face some critisism.. :2 cents:

As I've stated all along, I personally don't have a problem with your banners. In fact, I kind of like them. You're sexy as hell, BTW. Jake is a lucky man!

The major issue was that some webmasters on this board have children and they don't want their children inadvertently getting an ear full of you having an orgasm.

Besides, talking banners are just plain annoying.

Your banners never bothered me :) I have my sound turned low:) If someone doesn't like something here on GFY then let them leave and go somewhere where they won't get caught 'surfing' .

You paid good money to run your banners, wether they have sound or not. Other's only wish they could afford it like you did :)

If the banners got affiliates, and the affilates send traffic, and the traffic converted and made you more then the banners cost you then I'd say good fucking job! Too mush complaining around here. I've got a child but he doesn't need to be with me when I'm working. Work is work, kids are seperate. If the sound bothers your kids they shold not be around, I'd rather the sound of an orgasm then som eof hte images posted on GFY.

I still think that those audio banners would work better for surfer traffic, but you know the results on webmasters so that speaks for itself.

Also I repeated several times that if the sound died on mouseout, it wouldnt be any different than the phone ringing banner, and the click me now banners that run here without comments about them.

What would you do if every time you reloaded a page on a board where you congregate and search for information that an annoying woman starts screaming "fuck that pussy" and it doesn't end on mouse out... would you be pissed? Would you be even more pissed if that attention whore didn't care enough about fellow webmaster's sound systems, families and embarrassment caused by it and thought that money was the most important thing in the world?

I stand by every thing I said about you and would say it to your face in a second. Unlike most people here I have clout, respect and have a big mouth on issues that actually affect us as a mass and will NEVER forge it. Fuck you and shut your fucking hole on the subject if you aren't going to accept responsibility for the embarrassment, annoyances and problems your advertising schemes have caused. All I see are excuses above in your post.

Other banners with sound are deal-with-able because they stop on mouse-out. That is ALL you had to do, along with lowering the volume. There is no need of treating your affiliates and fellow webmasters like an advertising billboard. if you need that kind of attention to get your program "out there" then you seriously need to stick to spreading your ass and off the boards. VERY MANY affiliate programs started from NOTHING and are making a nice gross profit in their first year just without having to use such childish and attention whoring methods as loud screaming banners. Are you able to do that? Or do you need attention from post whores?
I won't even look at your program now because I am so disgusted by the people representing it. Your loss and I am sure many more feel the same way as me.
LEARN TO WORK SMART AND MAKE MONEY WITHOUT HAVING TO ANNOY PEOPLE INTO GETTING ATTENTION TO A PROGRAM.

You are in the ADULT business and GFY is an ADULT board.... use your brain and just turn down the volume. It's really that easy. We have our office right in our main living area and we have a 15 year old daughter. I KNOW that some banners have sound, so I simply TURN DOWN THE VOLUME!!!

If webmasters children heard the banner, then shame on them for not taking the appropriate steps.

I can name 10 guys that "people don't like" many of them have been banned from this board...and you know what? They are laughing all the way to the bank.

don't talk to me like I am stupid and dont assume I have it cranked. if you have read any of the other threads about this you would have seen me posting that my sound volume is and always was DOWN AS LOW AS IT GOES when on GFY and this shit was still pounding the fucking walls on mouseover. I may have a beefy system and I for one will NOT shut it off or unhook it because unproffesional and uninteligent webmasters cannot figure out how to make sound files that don't get too damn loud and don't turn off on mouse-out.

Jake and Allie are some of the best and most honest people in the industry. I am a full tiem webmaster and I love the audio in the flash banners. It is part of there marketing and if it is working ( it seems to be working ) ............ then they should keep the audio and add ANY audio they want !

I didn't assume. Simple, she paid the money to run the banner and if you had the money to run a banner like that and get the affiliate traffic she got, I'm almost positive you'd do it in a second to make money.

I have my volume turned down and never had a problem with her banner. My daughter never heard it , so I guess my system works.

I think what some people fail to realize that while there are some people that do refresh gfy all fucking day and see/hear the same banners constantly, there are also other webmasters out there who don't visit the site quite as often and hang out all day long.

These webmasters theoretically spend more time on their sites, less on gfy, and are probably more of the type one would want to attract as an affiliate. And they probably make more money than the average whiney gfy post whore.

Yup. And ultimately it's Lensmans board and if he doesn't have a problem with it. Well.. then it's tough shit for those who do cause it's his board and he has ultimate control over what is advertised on it.

I think as a courtesy you should have put in the mouseout feature once you saw the complaints coming in. Having the sound continue even after mouseout is alot like hijacking someones computer as they no longer have total control over what is happening on it. And honestly i dont think the best to way to get quality affiliates is through threads that are complaining about your program... i value a program that will listen and be considerate of its affiliates and you didn't demonstrate either.

I am 100% sure you did not have a good ROI, if you had you wouldn't have made this post , maybe you had some affiliates sign up , maybe you had hundreds of them sign up , but there is a big difference between an affiliate and an ACTIVE affiliate , so no you did not gain any ACTIVE affiliates and now you hope to get some by makin some appoligies , too little , too late

I think it's interesting that you people who work in porn, blame others when your kids are exposed to it. Shouldn't you know better? Turn your audio off, it's hardly crucial to most people's work. Those phone calls can't be that important if you're mousing over gfy at the same time. If they were, you'd have enough sense to turn off your speakers.
