My mom might have Melana, anyone have experience with that ?

My mom has been having some problems lately with stomache pains and blood in her stools (sorry for the gross out, ha ha). She ended up going to the emergency room because of the pain and because her doctor couldn't see her right away and they think that she has something called Melana. I looked around for info online and didn't find much about it, most of the time I either got results for someone with that name or results with MelanA which is something different.

If anyone has any insight on this, I'd appreciate it. My mom is pretty frightened over it because she heard that it can turn into cancer, but she's not sure. She did some testing today and has more tomarrow.

The only info I could find on it was here -
http://www.jeghers.com/annts/GIHEMORRHAGE.html
but the only thing it says relating to Melana is
"In a broad sense, G. I. tract hemorrhage can appear as hematemesis and/or melana and vary in degree from minimal amounts detectable only by chemical tests for occult blood in the stool to rapidly fatal exsanguinating hemorrhages"

I think my grandfather had that and had to stop eating seeds and nuts. I remember when he told me I was devistated and I thought he was going to die, but once he learned to avoid certain foods he got better. I hope everything works out okay.

I had a friend who had his intestine burst inside of him and he had waste in his torso- he was in ICU for weeks, and then had to have a kolostomy bag for months.

They have alot of colotting agents and can do really great things with modern medicine.
