The typical webmaster sleeping problems. Any way to resolve them?

I go to bed most days at 7-8am (about the same time most wake up). It's a continual, endless cycle. Meanwhile somedays, I'd like to get to enjoy a good part of the morning/early afternoon. But cannot seem to break out of this routine. And if I do, it's only for one day out of the week to do a bank run. I've tried the following to help assist in my insomnia treatment:

Quote:

  • Tylenol PM - The absolute worst sleeping agent in the world. Causes restlessness, uneasyness, tossing and turning, boredom, and a whole array of problems. You're better off drinking a red bull to put you to sleep.
  • Unisom - Can work, if and only if, you're not use to taking other over the counter sleeping pills.
  • Ron Jeremy Penis pill TV infomercials - Puts me to sleep immediately, but it's hard to find the right channel/right time on most nights.
  • Nyquil Geltab - The winner, we've it right here. Great product. You avoid the shitty taste of nyquil, and it passes you the fuck out. Problem? It's habit forming, and you soon build a tolerance. What once put me to sleep (two geltabs), now takes six. Thus, I am no longer taking them.
  • Valium (under the counter) - Weakest shit ever, it's like taking candy. I've done two on several occasions, to no avail whatsoever. Finally, I ignored my fear of overdosing, and took seven valiums at one time. The outcome? I did fall asleep...four and a half hours later.
  • Counting Sheep - Great product, but too expensive.

Thus my question is, what over (or under) the counter drug do you use to try and regain the ordinary wake up at 8am, sleep at 11pm routine?

Thanks.

I don't think the problem is getting up at a decent time, I'm sure you do it from time to time ... it's KEEPING that schedule.

The best solution I would think is having something that necesitates you getting up at a decent hour. If you don't have to get up at any certain time ... why would you? :2 cents:

I had this problem myself. What I did is start slow, go to sleep 30 mins before you're used to. Then the next day or two make it an hour. Then next week 2. In a month or so you should be back to a regular schedule.

Working from home and knowing you don't have to do shit in the morn is really an easy excuse to slack off and get into messed up sleeping patterns. You just gotta schedule yourself and stay disciplined.

self-discipline and a to-do list for the next day may help get you up early... and as for going to bed earlier, hard exercise will make you good and tired... then stay off the computer for an hour before bed

Money works for me, regardless if I am up or not. I suppose I am fortunate. So yes, none of my time can be said to be occupied. I do not have to get up any time. However I have a girlfriend, who gets off from work at 1pm - And is ready to go do whatever, go out for lunch, see a movie, go to the beach, etc. - Meanwhile I awake at 3pm, sometimes even as late as 5pm. By the time I get out of "sleepy mood", shower up, get ready, check my emails/stats for the day - It's 6pm. Good part of the day is gone for her/us.

I do the exact opposite. I try and stay up an extra hour or two each night so my schedule rotates from day shift to night every 10 days or so.

I've tried all the drugs the first poster mentioned with almost the exact same results. It was pretty re assuring to know I wasn't alone in my drug habits.

You've said it, I think that's your solution. Make plans with your girlfriend, since that what you lament missing out in the first place.

I don't drink alcohol. Nor do I smoke weed/cigarettes. Just pop-pills. :(

Wow. Just wow, that is exactly exactly my perdicament.

Guess I'm not alone. Kudos to the "more peaceful at night" line. Couldn't agree more. Plus, you get less fuckers messaging you, with casual talk. More time, more work. :glugglug

Get off the computer by 10 and don't drink any soda or eat crap food after 6.

I have the same problem. Last week I stayed up till 10am playing hold em' and I haven't been to bed before 7 since. My usual bed time was 4. But I did this same thing last summer, and it worked out okay.

2 ways to cure your problem, if you see it as a problem.

1- make your girlfriend call you at like 11. then force yourself to get up and go somewhere. Around 3ish, you'll be tired enough to go to sleep. then repeat the next day at 10am , pretty soon, you'll be going to bed at a reasonable time.

2- xanax. it has become sort of a "fun drug" that alot of my friends enjoy. I don't see why the fuck they would enjoy it. I took one pill, and thought I would fuck around on the computer. I ended up laying down to watch some TV about 45 minutes later, cause I was too tired to move my mouse.

I woke up 5 hours later.

try that shit, if one doesnt make you feel all good and tired, take 2.

I've actually heard about this shit. Thanks for the suggestion, but:

Do I really need to bullshit this dude to get the script. Or can I just be blunt with him and say - "Doc, I have unusual work hours as a webmaster. I can't go to sleep. Simple, give me now, bitch!" ?

I notice with pain pills, I have to finesse the doctor, and overexaggerate my pain to actually get a reasonable drug, and a reasonable amount. :1orglaugh

dont go to sleep at 7-8am, stay up, keep yourself occupied, and then at the end of the night around 10-11pm go pass out....just gotta keep yourself busy during the day so you stay awake...

you'll then wake up early, and be tired around 10-12pm and pass out again...

Jace 07-13-2004 01:15 AM

i usually will stay up an extra night...like if I wake at 3pm in the afternoon, i just won't go to bed until the next night at 11pm...your up for a long time and it is difficult, but I am used to it

i can go 2-3 days sleepless, been able to do that for years

for ambien you can be honest

its for sleeping, but trust me on this.. dont take more than the prescribed doseage... also its addictive

1/2 to 1 is more than enough

works like a charm

KRL 07-13-2004 01:20 AM

I sleep when I'm tired. If I pull an all nighter and want to switch cycles, I just keep going so by the end of the day I'm dead tired and then will be to bed early and wake up like normal people at 7AM to 8AM.
