Dual monitor question
 

is it possible to make each monitor stuck to its own screen. Basically I want to surf GFY on one monitor and whatever is happening in the other monitor wont interfere with the first one. So if a window pops up, i dont want it to show up in the other monitors screen, and dont want the mouse to go to that screen.
is this possible

I have a dual monitor video card and use it to run two monitors.

I have my browser stuff on the main monitor, and an IRC chatroom on the other one. If you place something on one monitor it typically stays there without a problem. It's almost like "docking" it to that monitor.

The 2nd monitor is basically an extension of the desktop, so I don't so how you'd keep the mouse from moving to the second monitor.

Also, you can't take a window that's playing video and move it to the other monitor, which I feel is really damn annoying.

If you're using some sort of Unix-based setup, then it's really easy: Just start a new X session per display.

Assuming you're on windows, short answer is "yes". How it'll react depends largely on your drivers and how you set options up, though.

Most of the time, dual monitor setups involve the desktop spanning both monitors, in which case your mouse will travel one to the next and windows may overlap both displays. Some drivers allow you to specify that you don't want display overlap, and will allow "window affinity" so that particular programs will always show up on specific displays, along with their dialogues etc. A common option is to set a particular display as your 'full screen video' output.

I personally don't have a problem with windows spanning on my setup, but whatever works for you... but you should be able to get what you want from it.
