CC Bill is selling webmaster email addresses

I got this email today from lotzadollars.com with the FROM header saying "CCBILL affiliates". I never joined their program, but I do have an account with CC Bill. CC Bill must be selling webmaster email addresses. Anyone else get this email from lotzadollars?

David! 07-10-2004 03:29 PM

It's their newsletter, I get it all the time. :2 cents:

BVF 07-10-2004 03:29 PM

I don't know

Whose newsletter? I've never gotten a newsletter from CC Bill and I joined over a year ago.

SteveLightspeed 07-10-2004 03:35 PM

Lol, how can you prove that?

Don't you think CCBILL would be much less motivated to sell email addresses than a small sponsor program who has access to the same info? Could you imagine the damage CCbills reputation would suffer? Do you really think they'd be willing to risk that for the small money that they would make from selling lists? We're talking CCBILL here, not IBILL!

If someone "sold" it --- look at the most likely suspects before you instantly blame CCbill!

They have been either selling or losing their database for some time now.
Next time you buy something through ccbill use an original mail address specifically for that purchase.
I have done it 3-4 times and within 2-3 months the emails are getting spammed.
It was originally brought to my attention by a customer that did just the above, so I tried..

ccbill has never ever returned emails questioning this.

Well, CC Bill was in the header. How more "likely" can that be for ya? -lol.

I haven't put the blame on anyone yet. I forwarded the email to CC Bill just a second ago to get some answers.

primazo 07-10-2004 03:41 PM

You're right.
Just got the same mail from this Lotzadollars.com as a CCBill afilliate and i did'nt ever sign up with these guys.

Lotzadollars are the same people that run lotzatraffic and have the toplists of lotzainterracial, etc.

Pornopat 07-10-2004 05:09 PM

I received one.
Did you see the funny thing at the bottom?

if someone sold it th list must have come from ccbill so who else is to blame or did someone hack into the email database

if their database was hacked that then [present even more problems for ccbill than simply saying that they sold the email list or even rented it out :2 cents:

Perhaps the website you signed up to sold or traded their list to another program...Webmasters do trade their lists...

garett 07-10-2004 05:24 PM

I'm glad it's not just me. I got the same mail and thought I may have signed up with them and forgotten about it .. lol .. but looking at their websites they've got stuff that I would never promote .. so I was very confused.

This really pisses me off. This is the 3rd spam mail I've gotten this month that point to sponsors as the culprit >=|

some silly tricks!

bigdog 07-10-2004 05:34 PM

I got the same email, i was going to make a post about it. I have visited their site but i never signed up for their program

Pipecrew 07-10-2004 06:02 PM

I suppose nobody can forge headers, because that is extremely hard? I will send you some emails from the FBI.gov in a sec.

dunefield 07-10-2004 06:05 PM

i got some e-mail from lotza dollars about traffic or something... STOP SPAMMING!!!

thatjen 07-10-2004 06:08 PM

I got the email too and am not signed up with their program. However I have some listings on the Lotza topsites, so I assumed they just got my email from that database, unless the two sites are not the same company. I don't care because that's just one of about 300 spams I get a day.

I highly doubt CCBill would sell their email database, but it would be simple for an employee working there (or at any place that collects email addresses) to do so. Who knows:(

candyflip 07-10-2004 06:12 PM

I am signed up for their program and didn't get any email :321GFY

i'm opposite

i am not signed up with their program and i do get their emails

ldinternet 07-10-2004 06:38 PM

When you signup to any webmaster program under CCBill, the program owner can see your email, export the list of webmaster emails, etc. If anything, you've signed up with a CCBill partnership program, and the program owner has sold, traded or given away your address. I doubt that CCBill has anything to do with it.

That said, I got the email... and hit the "Block" button right away.

pornguy 07-10-2004 06:54 PM

Hey guys, before you go pointing a finger at ccbill, ( who could crush you in court for slander)

my neighbor got that e-mail and does not even work in the industry. He is in construction. And I am sure that ccbill is NOT doing cards for him...

cherrylula 07-10-2004 06:55 PM

If you've ever pushed sweetcamgirl.com that is one of their sites and they might have your email from that.

Her site was not a part of the program in the past but I think they've used her webmaster list to send out newsletters.

It makes sense that she would keep their webmasters up to date like that imo.

jimmyf 07-10-2004 06:58 PM

it wasn't ccbill, that would so stupid of them 2 sell emails it ain't funny.

JasonB 07-10-2004 07:01 PM

I got the same email.

I'm guessing it's some other program that I signed up for & now they're starting a new program

I get them all the time, but this one said it was from "CCBILL affiliates". First time I got one with that.

Donny 07-10-2004 07:33 PM

As another person in this thread explained, it was most likely another program that you DID sign up for that sold their list. Duh.

They're on our network, not as a direct hosting customer but as a customer of another hosting company that we provide bandwidth to. I too got the email along with other friends of mine and I don't *think* any of us are current affiliates or participating in the toplists, etc.

Rest assured, we will get to the bottom of these mailings. That being said, there's no need to lodge a SpamCop complaint or anything else similar as we're already responding to those. We don't allow unsolicited email from our network, everybody knows that.

Sincerely,

Brad

Bigjohn 07-11-2004 04:28 PM

The lottza guys run toplists and tgps. Ever submit a gallery via RS or AS? If so, that's where they got it.
