White or black bgcolor on websites?

personally I don't care what kind of site it is I like a clean, white site.

guy I knew that was a designer for the military said their research showed people like to see a lot of white on a page and this was coming from a black man. lol

Personally I stick to white, IMO it's just easier on the eyes and nice and clean looking. But if not white some sort of light color.
