My heart has been beating uneavenly for 72 hours now!

Back to the hospital tonight...

First 24 hours I ignored...
48 hours later (yesterday) my heart was still acting up.

Beating normal, then fast, then slow, then hard, then normal....

So I went to the hospital.
This hot nurse checked me out, said she could hear the un-normal heart rate.

They hooked me up to sensors and checked the electric pulse in my heart beat... nothing odd.

I waited for 3 hours in emergency room and went home because I was working this morning....

Now my heart is still doing that shit...
:(

ZOCOR my man... ZOCOR - and stop eating all those burgers!

NoCarrier 07-09-2004 06:37 PM

Anxiety attack?

cypocrypt 07-09-2004 06:38 PM

you may want to have that checked by a cardiologist...
a good friend of mine ignored the signs and now he is dead

myjah 07-09-2004 06:38 PM

I didn't see the doctor.
Stupid healthcare system... I waited for 3 hours, they called 4 people in. Then ambulances we're arriving and sick kids, and bloody people, I would have been there another 8 hours.

As soon as I read "stupid healthcare system" I knew you were in Quebec.

Trust me, I know what you're talking about. Which hospital?

This sounds like exactly what mine does..... I'll just be sitting here and it will feel like it is skipping beats or some shit and then go from like 68 beats a minute to over 140 a minute for no apparent reason. 10 years ago or so, I went and had all sorts of tests done and it turned out I had a Mitral Valve Prolapse.... the found out within a couple of hours what was going on and it was painless..... BUT there are precautions I have to take to this day........

GO GET THIS CHECKED..... it isn't anything to be fucking with. What I have isn't TOO serious as long as I take the precautions ordered, in fact it is pretty common......... but it isn't nothing to fuck with.

Napolean 07-09-2004 07:02 PM

byebye caffeine sir..

my little sister actually had something like that, except her heartbeat just sped up real bad

kronic 07-09-2004 07:04 PM

My wife went to the doctor a couple of months ago with something similiar. I told her not to worry about it because her insurance is all paid up, but she went anyways.

He told her that it's normal for your heart to have an extra 1-9 beats per minute. Nothing odd about that.

But definitely get it checked out. That's not something you want to fuck around with.

They don't last that long.

My advice is see a cardiologist even if you have to wait or go to a different hospital. I've had more experience with this than I want to talk about. Was in the hosiptal for 10 days with an abnormal heart beat.

So after you read about all the people that died etc. in the thread, wouldn't it be worth the piece of mind to have it checked out for real. Hey, if you fall over on the floor in the waiting room, you'll be right there where doctors can save your life.

Good luck!!! Scary stuff.

For sure, I think now would be the wrong time to have caffeine!! Take an asprin while you're at it. Oh, skip the alcohol too. I'm not a doctor.

Jesus, I forgot about my neighbor.

This exact thing happened to him about 2 months ago.

His nephew drove him in from about 15 minutes out of town to the emergency room. He was literally sitting there for 2 minutes waiting to check in when he keeled over and his heart stopped beating.

He was out of it for a while, and just went back to work last week.

Very lucky man. Very lucky.

darnit 07-09-2004 07:18 PM

DEFINATLY see a cardiologist ASAP, like now and dont take no for an answer, pretend to pass out in the waiting room if need be.

Also have you started taking new meds or changed anything else in your life that could possibly be causing this as a side effect?

Avoid strenuous excersize
Avoid stress
Avoid all stimulants
Keep someone who knows cpr around you at all times
Keep your cellphone fully charged and in your pocket at all times

:(

NoCarrier 07-09-2004 07:20 PM

Damn..

Stop scaring him, now he's going to have a good reason for the irregular heartbeats. :1orglaugh

He said he was going back to the hospital this night.

He said he was going back to the hospital this night.

Good point, but have to encourage him to go and make sure that will happen. By now he should be on his way.

pussyluver 07-09-2004 07:30 PM

Chances are he'll be ok. If he was at the hosptial, the hope is they asked enough questions even if he didn't get to see a doctor.

In the US, once you make it to the ER, you see a doctor. If you leave, It is aginst medical advice and you sign a wavier. It may take hours to see a doctor here too. People without insurance go to the ER, cause they have to give a certain amount of free care.

Groove 07-09-2004 07:32 PM

Get a referral to a cardiologist.

StarkReality 07-09-2004 07:35 PM

Some arrhythmias are very dangerous (highly increased risk of stroke), some are pretty harmless, so go check out a cardiologist, don't risk anything.

Same thing happened to me. PVc's Premature ventricular contractions caused by anxiety. I spent about 5k on cardiologists to only be told i need to be on antianxiety medication. I rarely get them now. Go to a shrink and get put on kolonpin. Problem solved.

Kassidy 07-09-2004 11:02 PM

I used to get something like that. I had Supra Ventricular Tachacardia until I had heart surgery 6 years ago. They threaded some wires up my femoral artery and zapped an un-needed part of my heart and I've been perfect ever since. Who knew that heart surgery could be done in the morning and you'd go home in the afternoon? Freeky.

I'd definitely recommend seeing your doctor for a referral to a cardiologist. An irregular heartbeat is never a good sign.

NoCarrier 07-09-2004 11:03 PM

I think he had his lesson, he should be there now as we speak.

Paraskass 07-09-2004 11:07 PM

I just got home.
Fuck the emergency room.

The nurse took my pulse and saw nothing unusual. She took my pressure also, nothing.

So I sat there and waited for 2 hours.

2 patients we're called in.
There we're still 8 before me, and some kids.

So I said fuck it.
I will call my doctor tomorow and get him to refer me to a cardiologist.

or I might drive back there now....

To see a cardiologist in Canada could take 3 months.

The emergency ward is just that. For emergencies. They're not specialists.

See your GP ASAP and get a physical. IF it's necessary, he'll send you to a cardiologist.

In the meantime, get a good night's sleep.

The more you think about it, the worse it'll get, or the worse it'll seem.

That's my opinion, but I'm obviously not a doctor.

Est-ce que t'as un medecin de famille? Si oui va le voir et il va t'envoyer voir un cardiologue, j'pense pas que tu peux avoir un rendez-vous comme ca.

Paraskass 07-09-2004 11:14 PM

Well the hospital is 5 minutes away from my house.

I will drive there now and ask to talk to the nurse.

I'll tell her I am having pain and trouble breathing.

I just wish they'de send me home with a machine I wear for 24 hours monitoring my heart beat.

zanycash Pete 07-09-2004 11:14 PM

Uh, yeah.

I didn't see anywhere above you complaining about pain and having trouble breathing.

That's different. Go to emergency if for nothing more than to have them monitor you overnight man.

I wouldn't describe it as pain...
it's more like my chest feels heavy and clogged....(spelling)

When I breath in deep it's ok.
Heart beat seems regular now...

Okay, it's not a laughing matter, but the internet IS very dangerous when it comes to self-diagnoses.

I can't imagine the doctors nowadays.

But Doc, I pee frequently, get headaches, and feel tired all the time.

The internet says I have colon cancer, diabetes, heart disease, lupus, and that's all I checked before I felt I needed a checkup.

Seriously Parakass, go to emergency and get them to monitor you overnight.

Paraskass 07-10-2004 02:55 AM

Well I just got back from the hospital again.
Saw a doctor, they couldn't find anything.

So now I have to ask my family doctor to send me to a Cardiologist.

Oh well, at least I can sleep safe and sound.

I waited only 5 1/2 hours to be seen.
