Call me crazy but it works for me.

Turning the sound down means I can't listen to my music. I'm blocking all Flash now.

I work with sound too. When I'm working with sound my speakers are turned up. When I'm surfing or perusing the boards though my speakers are off.

While we're asking questions here... I run a php board and I have a few flash banners from paid advertisers. Those accounts pay me enough to keep me in business and allows me to keep my board running so the thousands of members I have can enjoy it. My members of my board are there for free and can even make money themselves in lots of ways, on my board.

My question is, how can I block the fuckers who are blocking my ads from coming on my board and wasting my bandwidth? Does anybody know of a way to block the blockers? Please someeone help me, my business may be in trouble if these banner ad blockers see any widespread use.

The second I decide to visit GFY every day, I turn off my sound. This is accomplished by finding the little dial on my speakers that says "volume" and turning it all the way to the left.

That's right,... this board IS business. As such, paid advertisers PAY to have their ads here. Advertisers usually choose what ads they want up, so your beef is with them, not Lensman. How hard it's to understand that I do listen to music while browsing GFY and working. I have GFY open while I do my shit, and press refresh -> read -> post and then continue working. You think I'm gonna mute my music every 15 minutes for a while?

Why not stop mousing over them? You've noticed the banner there in the middle on top and bottom button? Occasionally my mouse does come over the banner when I use bookmarks for example to come to GFY.. the banner is right there below the bookmarks.

We pay to advertise here, i would never use a sound banner..it is invasive.
I do about 100-150 tasks each day...who knows im not really counting, and i dont think i should have to stop my music just because im coming here

I honestly had no idea of just how many crybabies there are on this board.

Well, I suppose I had some idea. But I did not realize there were so many.


For the record, I don't like the sound banners either. No, that's not ture either..... there have been a few that were quite amusing over the years. I can't recall them exactly, but I know there were several that had me laughing. But in general I don't like them.

So I changed my work habits a little. That's all, just a little. I listen to the radio while on the boards, so I get my tunes but can have the sound turned off on my computer. It wasn't that big of a deal to me to do this. When I want to listen to the playlist on my computer I'm usually designing something or updating my sites or something, and am NOT taking little breaks to check the boards. To me work is work. I'll finish my work, then come here and fuck around after. (with the sound off)

To me the solution is so easy, why would I want to come here and publicly cry my eyes out over what amounts to an insignificant annoyance? No, some people just seem to feel the driving need to find something to bitch about. I am simply not one of those people.

I never sit at the computer clicking around on GFY or any message board while I'm talking to someone on the phone. If I ever do, my volume on the speakers is turned off. (duh)

Sorry CD, I can't agree with you here. I surf the board while doing things in other windows that require sound. When I go over those fucking banners, especially by accident (which is the only time I do it now), it's a pain in the ass and is extremely counterproductive. Am I supposed to sit there and turn the speakers up and down as I switch windows? I don't think so. I will be blocking all flash in future. Sorry, sponsors.

Phoenix, you've got your little ad blocker thing now, go use it and be happy. All this complaining is useless from where I sit. I said that I also don't like the sound ads... I said that. Right here in this very thread I said it.... thus I agree with you on that point. But for me the problem ends there, because when I open a browser to come here I turn my sound off. To me it's that simple. In fact, as soon as I pick up the phone I turn my sound off.

The boards aren't the only sites that have sound files and banners and flash bullshit, there are plenty of sites that do that. Are we going to complain to every site that does it? If not, why only here?

If I felt the need to go get one of these blocker things I would do it and get on with life. The LAST thing I would do is come here and cry about sound like so many others are doing today. I'm not singling out you on that comment btw, mostly a lot of others who are going on and on and on with their complaining. I'm the type that deals with it and moves on, minus the whining.

I play gigs and gigs of my mp3s.

I have encoded my 2000+ cd collection along with hundreds of rare vinyl etc.

Half the shit I listen to is ripped vinyl.

i sit here and design for hours upon hours, a radio will not cut it becuase I don t like a damn thing on the radio and having my computer control my entertainment center has been the way I run my home for 5 years now.

i cant change my entire audio set up to surf GFY.

my computer runs audio to my entire apartment, to my main stereo in the living room and my work station.

as i said, turning off sound is not an option.

My playlist has only about 500 songs in it right now. I fire it up and let it play radomly about 1-2 times a week, but during that I'm almost always working on some project and not surfing, so sound banners can't bother me in the least.

I'm lucky with the radio I guess, I have a few choices for stations here that play the kind of shit I love, the classic rock, the 70's & 80's tunes etc. If one station plays the odd shit song I get up and turn it to the other station.

Plus right now I have ads running on the local radio stations for one of my mainstream sites. I get a kick out of hearing my commercial on the air.
