Home theatre connoisseurs... is this a good deal?

I know sweet fuck all about speakers/sound systems, but I'm looking to pick up a cheap home theatre sound system. I don't use my TV enough to justify dropping a few ground on a top of the line system.

I know someone who's selling this for $300-$400 CDN. It's 8 mths old and still under warranty.

Doesn't look like anything special but generally not bad if it's cheap. It seems to suffer from the same syndrome as most general consumer oriented sound systems on the market - the speakers used aren't big enough to produce the frequencies they are expected to produce. 8" driver for the sub, and 4" drivers for the mids for example, are the absolute bare minimum. It really depends on the kind of music you listen to. Classical will sound way better on that system than Techno or rap.

ur better off buying those sets with the amp/dvd player for a 100 bucks or so more... :2 cents:

you dont knoe what this guy has done with them, they could be at their end of life...warranty on audio equip is tough, they stiff you with remacs, or tell u its wear and tear and dont cover them...unless u know a speaker shop around you who can test the speakers out

if you're more of a movie type guy as oposed to an audiophile then go for it but if you listen to lots of music, your best bet is finding a more beefier set of satelites and a bigger sub.

I never believe audio reviews. Most are done by 40's something oafs used to 70's era equipment who just got their first taste of hi fidelity and surround sound.
