are sex sites illegal in china?
Im asking this everywhere thought this might be good as any. We have found recently that one of our bigger Asian based websites (csutomer of ours) is not accessable from certain parts of china. I keep changing his ip only to have it blocked again. He claims its because china doesnt want big accessable asian porn sites!?
Is this true I have not experienced it with other customers asian sites only his. I could not find any overly objectionable material or other such reasons for blocking. Seems Shanghi operations hate this site most. He gets about 20k visitors to his site daily from shanghi alone. Thanks for your input! |

Couple of things here.
1) Yes, China blocks and monitors its internet. I'm not sure about their take on adult, but everything is filtered, even down to every single SMS / Text message sent. 2) It is MHO that selling porn into China / Asia would be an impossible task. If you've ever been over there and gone to any market, there is SO MUCH smut on dvd / SVCD for next to nothing (I'm talking 5 DVDs for $10 etc) They can get everything they want, without having to go through the rigmarole of the internet.:2 cents: |

Like i said its a customer so I dunno he makes money at it aparently so Im trying to keep em in business. |
Coming from a shanghainese person, trust me bro we loveeeeeeeee porn

The filtering/monitoring is inconsistent. You can get through to any porn site one week and not the next from the same Internet Cafe. Online Porn in China will be huge when there is a critical mass of Chinese with credit cards and once there is a stable billing solution. Although they do have some nifty alternative billing with mobile phone credits etc. Cheap DVD/VCD's are just slowing down the expansion, not stopping it . People everywhere love the convenience and anonymity of online porn versus a trip to the rental store or video store where Uncle Chang might catch you buying smut. :) |
Yes it is...2 billion ppl and it is ilegal..just imagine how big market that is:(
|
Yes it is illegal and yes China does block the ip blocks of people that host adult content.
If you want to monetize on your Chinese traffic you can always ip filter it out to somebody who specializes in it like China Traffic http://www.chinatraffic.net |
Yes, technically speaking, porn is illegal in China.
Having said that, nothing is illegal providing you don't get caught. Want to surf for porn? Surf with proxies. No Chinese host in their right mind will host porn. The fact is the Chinese government is a lot more concerned about people surfing on the falun gong site than surfing porn any day. Maybe a solutions for the customers is to access the pages via a mirror site. |
You want a real answer.
Here it is. It is illegal for any chinese to view pornographic websites, magazines etc. Producers and webmasters face penalties as high as the DEATH PENALTY. The chinese government does monitor what is accessable and even who is allowed to access the internet at all. Anyone marketing porn to china should make sure he/she never has to travel to china. Shanghai of course isn't as harsh on the pnealties but porn still is illegal and will be blocked. |
and take it from me...the reason they get smuts from cheap dvds and vcds is because china is the piracy capital in the world...why do they need to log on to the netv where they can be blocked when pirated copies arer available everywhere. don't ask me why piracy is still rampant in there cuz i cant answer that...it just is...
