Question for All Miss GFY Contestants ! SPEAK NOW ...hehe

Alright...this is merely an inquiring minds want to know post...hehe

We are on Round 4 of this 10 week contest that was announced on Feb 28th

We've lost some really strong women in this industry and in the GFY community , who dropped out due to lack of time to complete tasks, not having a photographer, etc.

So,

Have you considered dropping out?

or

Will you stay in the game regardless of the weekly tasks and how long it takes to get to the final round?

If you've considered dropping out, why?

A) it has basically turned into a beauty contest?
B) it has turned into a popularity contest?
C) ?

Inquiring minds want to know hehe

DISCLAIMER: this is not a bash the contest post. This is also not a post based on my own feelings about the contest. Oh, and don't forget to vote for me (#27) LOL

I think MissGFY is sexist. TGF has some nice manboobies and should have been allowed to enter. :1orglaugh

This 10 round competition looks like it'll take the rest of the year to finish up at this rate.

No I haven't considered dropping out of the contest, even though the thought of a big girl winning this contest doesn't really strike me as even possible. lol

I am staying in it, because I want to see how far I can get.

PrivateIvy 07-08-2004 09:43 AM

Of course, you never know...maybe I just started this thread to get all the GFY girlies to read it . I've encoded it and am transferring the "Drop out of MissGFY contest" thoughts into each and every one of your brains :1orglaugh

i seriously have no clue how "brains" is even linked to this contest.

so far its all "take a picture of you doing this"

good lord, any cam girl can do that

at least the Belly Flop contest takes a little talent ;)

I have been saying this the whole time, and I'm really hoping we can get away from just taking pics and on to some type of tasks that require some sort of skill :thumbsup

No I have not considered dropping out, we are at round 4 now so that is 6 more rounds to go. I'm sure we will get other stuff to do then pictures soon. Loryn already told you that didn't she?

I don't understand why you keep going on about this, if you don't like it you can quit you know :winkwink:

What is your opinion on this btw, you asked the question but I didn't see you answer?

I know that the pics don't seem fair to a lot of girls. but what if they wanted us to do programming or design? That wouldn't be fair on a lot of girls too. There are a lot of girls on this board and not all of them do the same job. Some are salesreps, models or webmistresses, so I guess you will have this problem with everything they pick.

This is supposed to be fun ( and I had fun so far) and complaining about it all the time only spoils that. Relax and have fun :winkwink:

CrazyNakedChick 07-08-2004 09:58 AM

i knew what i was getting into when i entered, i'm in it till they boot me.

they claim they want the total package (beauty/brains).....ask me on a good day and i will tell you i'm exactly that. ask me on a bad day and i'll tell you to leave me the fuck alone so i can get some work done. :winkwink:

I asked to withdraw before the contest even began. I had misgivings about how much of it would simply be a beauty pagent, and did not want to participate in that. Alas, I was never removed, but used in the first round weightings.....

This does sound a little harsh! Let's not fight ladies. Remember why you are all in this...FOR FUN!

Elli 07-08-2004 10:03 AM

I seriously considered dropping out this week. I got discouraged after barely making the cut in round 3, and decided that I didn't have the time to pursue it further. Then my man gave me a pep talk and got me at least to give it another try.

So here I am. :)

EDIT: Why I almost dropped out? I'm not the hottest girl here, and I don't have the best photographer or biggest budget. My best hope (imo) lies in the contest eventually branching into other types of challenges. So I'll try to stick it out until then :)

I noticed the disclamer, but that doesn't mean that I can't question why you are doing this.

I am absolutly not jumping on you babe, show me one post were I did that. Questioning why you write these posts and complain about the contest is not jumping on ones neck you know. You get to share you thought and I can share mine right? Like you sayed in the post I quoted.

Thanks for voting for me, and I hope we can talk in real live sometime. You sound like an interesting discussion partner :winkwink:

Thank you Elli !!! Finally some dang honesty !!!

So now I will post my own answers to my questions.

Yes, after last week I considered dropping out. I barely made the cut and never really intended to enter another beauty contest. I entered because it was a GFY thing and assumed there would be other things involved besides having to hunt down a photographer, wardrobe, and shoot every week.

I'm hoping tasks will branch into something besides pics as well, but I'm not counting on it. Not sure if I'll stick it out til the end or not because of the amount of time it is involving ( not just 10 weeks)

So that's my honest answer ( for Bo who asked)
:winkwink:

And thanks Elli for having balls to be honest

Yeah I'd like to have them judge who can make the best logo / banner or whatever. Maybe who can write the best sex story.. or the best sales text.

The pic contests are just really shallow.. and it comes down to who has the best photographer. (Vanilla is seems. ;))

Basically what I am saying is sure.. we've seen their bodies, now lets see the rest of the package. :)

Tom_PMs 07-08-2004 10:11 AM

I'd guess stay in if you want, stay out if you want. But make it your decision internally, since the rules seem to be pretty loose. Dont lay it on someone else if you drop out is all I'm saying.

It seems like a FUN thing, and just like politics, it is *always* a popularity contest when you boil it down I think.

I agree with you there, Tom.

Ivy, it's not balls really. I already explained this in a thread last week about almost dropping out, so there's nothing to hide here.

i loved your submission this week, i chose not to vote at all for the duration of the contest but if i had yours would have been my top choice. i truly mean that. vanilla's is sexy, but i have such a thing for "nerd guys in bowties" that yours topped it. :Graucho

i won't deny that i would love to have a pro photographer, or a pr specialist hyping me up all over the board, but i know the challenges will expand and that GFY surfers appreciate those of us giving it our all any way we can. :)

Tom_PMs 07-08-2004 10:20 AM

Consider the idea of a "create a banner" or "create a webpage" contest. If the rules dont state "no outsourcing" and a gal outsources to a top designer and wins, what would happen? :winkwink:

ie: this weeks is a picture wearing mens clothing. We do see some bra's and panties, *BUT* the rules didnt state "ONLY" mens clothing, so bra's and panties are perfectly acceptable.

I dont think it should be taken too seriously, all the ladies are beauties and successful in business. I think a group photo-op in Hawaii with a top photographer is a kick-ass idea. Send them all.
(then post pics) :Graucho

hehe, have fun :)

You're absolutely right. Some are in sales, some programmers, some models, etc. It is hard to do something that they all would have a "fair" shot at, which is why in my opinion there should be a fair balance of contests that don't revolve around being sexy.

There were a few true Miss GFY's that have been booted because of a few extra pounds or maybe too many wrinkles. It's kind of disappointing, but don't get me wrong, seeing you ladies dressed up in costume is hot as hell. :winkwink:

Oh stop there is going to be pictures on the beach of Lens and a bbw Miss GFY stop, never happen. They said its not a beauty contest but most of the nonmodel girls are gone . This isnt omp its GFY when I think of a Miss GFY I think of Kaylacam she can code with the best of them and look very hot in a bikini. Thats a Miss GFY to me not just a pretty face.

I agree on the design and other tasks that would be hard to prove done by us. So not sure what other type of tasks would suffice.

But I will say, most of us do site work during the day and have kids and family to tend to at night. So the picture rounds mean finding the time , a photographer, babysitter, etc etc etc in order to complete those tasks...so variation week to week would be nice !

:winkwink:

I must say I have considered dropping out of the contest a few times. It's beginning to feel like you need to have a huge budget, a professional photographer, or to be a content model to make it in this contest...and I have none of those three.

But on the other hand, I am having fun doing my 'home made' photoshoots and I will stick in this contest untill I'm voted off...and I'm not going to give in to making pictures that are just made to 'get your dick hard'

anyhow, I'm starting to sound bitter, and it's not the case. I just thought, like others have stated, that this was about beauty and brains...so far it's only been about beauty.

good luck to all the contestants!

It's clear that Amber has a lot of qualities besides looks. Hey, she does her own site coding and all. I worry that some will be left behind that shouldn't be. That's in light of the contest goals.

From my point of view Amber is hot, smart and should be Miss GFY. Now she may have a big head too. Think another thread paid her many compliments that stroked her ego. Anyway thanks for your *all*.

This is not a bash just my opinion. I am in no way shape or form jealous of anyone.

I never entered the contest cause I knew it would be a beauty contest which one would have to have an make-up artist and good photographer to win. (Emphasis on the GOOD professional photographer)

The majority of the regular women that post here WAY before the contest are webmistress, women in marketing and webmistress that also model. I have been around a few years so I know how few ladies actually posted here.

Although I am a bit disappointed, I know it is all about the bling bling , hits etc so I am just enjoying it from an observer. I just hope some of this new women stay after the contest.

Good Luck to all contestants.

Stewie 07-08-2004 11:50 AM

Based on some of the "generalization" comments I have read here, I feel like I should outline a few facts about Vanilla and I for any inquiring minds:
  • Vanilla does her own hair and make-up - she does not use make-up artists.
  • Vanilla has not spent more than a few bucks on each entry - most everything used has been something we already owned.
  • Vanilla is a web model for her own site, but 90% of her time is spent in the office (working her site and others we own, graphics, video-editing, marketing, work for Twisted, etc.).
  • I'm not a "pro" photographer by any means - I have had no training or schooling in photog, though I have been taking Vanilla's pictures since we started her amateur site in 99.
  • All of her entries have been shot using the same crappy Olympus E-10 I have used for years - no pro light kits, reflectors or anything else.
  • Vanilla (and myself) were both registered and posting for a couple months before MissGFY was every mentioned.
  • We both spent numerous years in "corporate America" before getting into this industry in 99 - Vanilla worked in HR management for several large corporations.

Just because someone is beautiful, does not mean that person is dumb, or only good for one thing. :2 cents:

KCat 07-08-2004 12:01 PM

Stewie - Vanilla hasn't been around GFY that long, but she's in been in the industry longer than a lot of folks here. I have nothing but respect for the two of you. And your amazing photography skills! :thumbsup

re: the contest
I'm going to be voted out this week & for the amount of time & effort doing these shoots have taken me, I'd be plenty happy to take the place of someone who wants to drop out.

I was expecting there to be more interesting tasks too, but I still think the contest is a great success. I'm getting to know a lot of new people & girls who were too shy to post on GFY are now regulars. I think that's what it's all about.

:2 cents:

Hey Stewie, most of us know what Vanilla does and how long she has been in this industry. I must have missed any posts that were directly about her.

Not my intention to nitpick about anything or anyone.

Honestly, due to lack of time and other things, I have considered bailing, so I just wanted to post and see if I was alone in those thoughts:-)

If there are any "content girls" left in the running, I'm unaware. As I scroll through who is left, all I see is either models who run their own sites or similar.

Give Vanilla a big Kiss for me:Graucho Looks like she is gonna win this one for the 2nd week in a row :winkwink:

I was expecting there to be more interesting tasks too, but I still think the contest is a great success. I'm getting to know a lot of new people & girls who were too shy to post on GFY are now regulars. I think that's what it's all about.

:2 cents:

Thanks KCat :thumbsup Sorry that you had problems this week - remember that the judges have the final say, so you never know. :glugglug

EDIT: Oh, and BTW ...if you get ready to upgrade , I've got a Very new Nikon E5700 hehe I'm getting ready to upgrade to the D70 :)

Thanks Ivy - my comments weren't directed specifically at you or anything you said here. It was more based on indirect comments I have read by others here and in other threads - just trying to dispel some of the generalizations people are making.

No one has won yet - besides, the judges have the final say. As Lensman said in this weeks contest thread: "Also remember, the Judges determine the final results. Last time, it matched the votes." :glugglug

I would have entered had I been given confirmation that it wasn't a picture contest. At this point - in a way it's a little offensive to see that all you are being asked to do is take pictures with the exception of the posting contest. If it continues this way, most of you will have paid a good part of the possible winnings - without winning anything in the end. I think you're all flattered to hear 'you're hot' - but at the end of the day, when you look in a mirror each and everyone of you know you are the most beautiful woman to one who matters & quite frankly, I'm sure you'd all love to be judged on alot more than just your looks.

Whatever Lensman's plan was from the start, it sure is looking like a long, drawn out, viewfest & quite soon many *even the horniest webmasters* will grow tired of it.

I'm sure all the ladies that entered hoped to win - but most importantly hope to gain allies & partners & promoters in the competition - just in case you don't win. In the end, your brains aren't being used - your creativity, imagination & photographers' skills are just being played out.

I'd personally like to see more of these women showing their other talents - promotion skills, marketing ideas, writing skills & more. It doesn't take a beauty contest to confirm that they are all gorgeous - we knew that before & we'll know it after too. If people weren't promoting you then, they most likely won't promote you after - nothing changed, just more pictures of the same 'idea' being taken.

BRING ON THE BRAINS, TALENT & OTHER ATTRIBUTES OF THESE FINE WOMEN.

For all it's worth, here's my :2 cents:

It's a "shame" that the competition appears to be more of a "beauty" contest, but as the powers that be have said, it encompasses women from all areas. Having looked at the suggestions for other competitions, I can understand the problem with coming up with things that aren't just weekly photo competitions.

However.... I understand the feelings of "should I drop out"... It's a long competition... but honestly, I think that anyone that sticks it out to the end, putting up with all the GFY crap etc. DESERVES to win, even if it means 10 weeks of just photo. The contest isn't meant to make a "statement" about women in this biz. Nor is the contest going to change all the misogynist neanderthals on here. So go with it. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE PRIZES...

Has anyone really had a look at who's left?? I'm impressed that a lot of the women left are ones that I see posting here on a regular basis. And that's what GFY is about and what a Miss GFY should be in my opinion.

PS. Surpringly, seeing some of the posts, photo creativity etc. in this contest HAS made me respect some of the women in the competition more than I did before. Take that for what its worth.
