People Who Vote for Themselves

I have an interesting (at least it is to me) question: Should people vote for themselves, when they are allowed to vote for a winner of a contest?

I was always taught that it is very tacky to vote for yourself. Use your vote on other people, and let the people vote for you if they like you. But then, it'd be awful to lose by the one vote you could have cast for yourself.

Any thoughts on this? It's a thinkum.

Mishi 07-08-2004 01:32 AM

Tacky? Maybe. But I sincerely doubt W. will be tossing any votes Kerry's way this November...and vice versa... :Graucho

tootie 07-08-2004 01:34 AM

I feel like you do about it, Elli. I think it's pretty tacky to vote for yourself. But you're right, it would suck to lose by one vote. :(

Personally, I didn't vote for myself and I got eliminated. Maybe my vote could have saved me, maybe not. But personally, I'd rather lose something with a clear conscious than win by voting for myself.

Actually, I might vote for myself in something IF I truly thought I deserved it.

why shouldnt you be allowed to vote for yourself?

its quite permisable to vote for yourself now, i think its some rule that the TGPs made...

ArikaAmes 07-08-2004 01:36 AM

I totally agree with you. I was brought up the same way. I just think it's wrong, possibly a little self-centered, and definitely tacky.

Who cares? There are lots of prizes and also big bucks involved in this. I think anyone who doesn't vote for herself is crazy.

It ain't a manners contest- it's Ms. Go Fuck Yourself! How could you do anything "tacky" in a contest like that? :1orglaugh

If you wanna walk away with the booty, I say spam your pics, your number, and anything else you can think of, to high hell and back. Play to win!!

Whatever floats your boat. If it were me it would be a case of having some grace about it though. That's all. Nothing more, it's a personal choice.

To me it's just an extra tick in the class column when someone votes for others rather than themselves. If you're the true winner and truly deserve to win, you will.

Danny Dukes 07-08-2004 02:25 AM

Ummm ladies aren't you in this contest to win? Fuck the being nice shit and how you were brought up and shit like that. Women in general hate other women, they fuck there best friends boyfriend and talk shit about there best friend to another friend. Quit the fucking bullshit already, you know damn well you would fuck eachother over in a second to get 20 grand, like I said you do it to fuck your best friends boyfriend so why the fuck wouldn't you do it for a profit?! Before some girl gets on here and says " I would never do that to my friend or anyone", there is exceptions to every rule but this is just a generalization. So generaly speaking this is how women are.

If there are guys and girls who know what im saying, speak up. You know damn well this is bullshit!:1orglaugh

CDSmith 07-08-2004 02:29 AM

There you have it. Like I said, it's a personal choice. You can be gracious about it and be a good sport, use some tact....

...or you can go with the guy above and do the ME ME ME ME - WIN AT ALL COSTS - FUCK THE REST thing.

It's up to your own personal opinion, your own personal choice. An opinion was asked - I gave one. Don't let anyone's opinion on this or any thread influence yours.

twistyneck 07-08-2004 02:35 AM

If you don't vote for yourself, why should anyone else? If you aren't playing to win, quit.

neverlearn 07-08-2004 02:40 AM

This Board, and this Business is as fair as a kick in the nuts when your taking a drink of water.

The majority of the pop on this board and in this biz is in it for cash and personal gain.

Its a matter of personal choice.

Personally, I feel I sell my soul sometimes for a mitt full of 100$ bills and I hate it, but I justify it to myself and go on about my biz.

I dont think this is where I am going to finish. Its a learning process filled with choices.

Personally ... I think you should stick to your guns on whatever choice you make until you choose to change.

They can have my guns when they pry them from my cold dead fingers.

And to all the fucktards who are gonna comment negativley to this here post I wrote...heres a hot steaming cup of fuck off for ya in advance...

to the rest, thanks for letting me vent my thoughts on the subject of morals in GFY land

:)

Wow, just look what happens to a thread after I go to bed! Who knew?

I am not a back stabber, Danny. Never have been, never will be (I hope). And for me it's not all about winning. The end does not neccessarily justify the means. I'd rather win with a clear conciense.

That said, I really hate losing. :)

Can we unban Luc just for a few days a month, maybe? Like voting days? :Graucho

I'm glad I'm not the only one (Arika, CD, etc) who feels this way. I get all torn up about it every voting day, but I don't think I've voted for myself yet. I may have succumbed to temptation last week, but I don't think I did. I honestly don't remember.

Ah well. I haven't voted at all in this round yet, so maybe I'll just wait a little and play the strategy vote. :Graucho

EviLGuY 07-08-2004 10:04 AM

I don't think there is anything wrong with it.. really you are voting for who you think should win, and if you don't think YOU should win then why even compete?

Plus most people that vote for themselves ALSO vote for 4 other girls.. if they just voted for themselves and thats it, then that might be a little tacky. :)

Babagirls 07-08-2004 10:06 AM

tacky? sure.

necessary when votes are close? definatly. :thumbsup

hehe oh, well as long as the rule has been changed! I'll have to inform my mother. It might take some doing to explain what a TGP is to her, though. :1orglaugh

In Junior High I ran for Student Council. I voted for the kid who beat me by one vote. Funny how that happens.

Trixie Racer 07-08-2004 10:28 AM

Our votes don't even count. There are 5 judges who decide. Our votes are for fun. :2 cents:
