My heart has been beating funny all day. Should I see a doctor?

I've been ok in the club, walking around and playing soccer...
but when sitting down in the office or at home, I've felt my heart beat in a funny patern.

I get the deep hollow heart beats that feel slow and heavy...
kinda weird feeling in my chest.

No, don't go see a doctor. It's only your heart, not something important.

Does it happen after you consume alot of sugar or carbs? I have several diabetics in my family and that happens to some of them when they eat too many carbohydrates at once. You might want to get a blood sugar test.

I am planing on doing that.
I just got a family doctor and am supposed to do some blood tests this week.

If this persists tomorow I will go to the clinic.

GFY is a great place to get a solid opinion about potentially life threatening cardiological maladies

pxxx 07-08-2004 12:18 AM

Fuck the heart, you still got your kidney:thumbsup .

Kidney is waaaaaaaayyyy more important.:thumbsup

Ofcourse it is something you should get checked out ASAP, the heart is not something that you delay with. Good luck and i hope the doctor gives you good news.:thumbsup

baddog 07-08-2004 12:20 AM

it will stop eventually, nothing to worry about

Groove 07-08-2004 12:21 AM

Dude, what what do you think? :eek7

HS-Trixxxia 07-08-2004 12:21 AM

Anxiety attacks.....happens to many of us. I'd still get it checked with a doctor though.

They aren't fun either - you never know if it's anxiety or a real one :) Anyhow.....make an appointment with Institut de Cardiologie quick. They have you doing a shitload of tests physical & medical tests to rule out heart problems/diseases.

boobmaster 07-08-2004 12:32 AM

cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heart beats) can lead to sudden cardiac death, where the heart just stops beating. Get an appointment to get a stress test immediately.

Fuck yes dude...I had that happen to me about four years ago; it was really bad and I could barely function. After about two hours, I went to the hospital; ended up spending 24 hours in the intensive care unit. Ended up that I have some really weird genetic heart problem. Have not had any problems in four years, but only because the doctor told me what to do to live with it, plus I now know what meds to take if I have to go to the hospital. That's nothing you want to fuck around with.

if your hands or feet start to tingle or go numb then its a pretty sure bet you're having a panic attack.
The numbeness in your extremeties is due to the fact you're not breathing enough because youre panicked.

Panic attacks are a vicious circle

they coe on out of no where and you THINK you're having a heart attack which makes you panic MORE - sucks big time.

IF you get pains in your head, the urge to vomit , or any pain in your left arm get medical attention right away - could be some sort of coronary attack

blazin 07-08-2004 05:52 AM

Could be anxiety attacks - but go get it checked out for sure

Couple lines of nice clean cocaine will speed it right back up. :thumbsup

Probably just an anxiety attack. It's GFY's most popular medical malady. If this is the case let us know and you'll have a 3 page thread where everybody tells you which combination of tranquilizers and anti-depressents works for them.

ytcracker 07-08-2004 07:36 AM

anxiety attacks suck

Floridiot 07-08-2004 07:38 AM

Seriously.. if you wonder if maybe you should see the doctor. You really SHOULD. Most medical problems are a lot easier to treat the sooner they find them. :2 cents:

sexyelisha 07-14-2004 07:27 PM

They're also known as "Palpitations" - I get em all the time, and contrary to common belief its not due to too much weight.

They can be caused from too much caffine, not enough sleep, MSG and other food additives etc. Its always best to get them checked out just in case. I had an attack for 18 hours once. I find I get them when I have tummy "wind" and also when I get pissed off or nervous.

Supposedly they are common in early twenties females. (I've done my research!!) And Now i'm on beta blockers to regulate my heart beat. fun fun fun

:helpme

sexyelisha 07-14-2004 07:30 PM

Oh yeah and also they can be caused from too much masturbation... *giggle* - and im being 100% deadly serious!!

:thumbsup

reynold 07-14-2004 08:17 PM

that's anxiety, stress and LIBIDO!!!

FlyingIguana 07-14-2004 09:03 PM

from what i was told, if its your heart thats showing bad signs something else is wrong.

if it really is your heart, then you see signs elsewhere

It can also be an imbalance in minerals in your body - like not enough magnesium or too much sodium etc.

Paraskass 07-15-2004 04:53 PM

Woah.
this thread is like 1 week old.

My heart stopped beating a long time ago.

DavieVegas 07-15-2004 05:41 PM

heart palpatations are common but can be fatal so go see your doctor...My dad has em and has to take pills daily or he will have aheart attack

PersianKitty 07-15-2004 06:38 PM

I ran into that about 15 years back. I'd known I'd always had a weirdish heart beat.. sometimes it would feel like it missed part of a beat, etc. In my late 20s I was getting this feeling where my chest would be tight for a bit and it would be hard to breath. There was a butterfly feeling in my chest before this. Went to a cardio/pulmonary doc and after some tests he told me that what I had was essentially an occassional misfire of the electrical impulses that make the heart beat. He also told me that what I had was congential, meaning I was born with it. Told me if it bothered me too much to go on beta-blockers for the rest of my life (no thanks), otherwise just get annual exams that included an EKG and a cardiac ultrasound.

When in doubt about something going on it never hurts to check in with the doc.

On beta blockers and get checked over about every 3-4 months. That includes echo, blood work and ekg. Had a cath earlier this year. All is fine. It's been good for me, cause they catch stuff before it becomes a problem.

You know how many guys are about seeing a doctor. Have to wait till they're near death! So now I'm on this routine that keeps me in line. They even did a colonoscopy. I would have never volunteered for that one.
