I saw it at the theatre... one of the best movies of the year if not the best. Time to go buy the DVD now.

good, but so predictable it almost ruined the experience of watching it.

I dont think it was meant to have any twist anyway. It was all about the story, emotions and the superb acting

You could guess a few of the major plot twists but I think the amazing acting more than makes up for any shortcomings.

yesterday I rent a DVD and didn't take Mystic River, looks like I missed something...

Cold Mountain is also a good one to watch!

I liked Mystic River more and thought that Sean Penn gave a better performance in Mystic River as well. To each his own I guess :winkwink:

Very depressing. I cried like a little girl (but if you ever want to fight me, or if you girls like "macho" guys, I never cry).

Didn't make me cry, but it bummed me out for the rest of the night.

Big Fish, on the other hand, made me quite teary eyed...saw it in the theater too. There were some sad motherfuckers coming outta that one. I always made it a point never to cry at a movie, but it got me...Burton, that fucker, got me.

Yeah, that was sad too. Did you see "I am Sam"? I think everyone cried at that one.

A sidenote to that, Burton should officially retire from film making.
Even though there isn't a director on earth who could re-make Willy Wonka better than him, well, NOBODY on this fucking planet could even come close to Gene Wilder's performance.

Yeah it was pretty fucking sad, didn't shed tears though.
That had to be a pretty challenging role for Penn.

Of his recent films, I like him best in Sweet & Low Down.

Awesome movie!

I was disappointed with "Mystic River." I thought that at times there needed to be more intensity in the acting, and then there were times when the acting was ridiculously over the top ( Penn at the restaurant table grimacing, Bacon's phone call at the end of the movie to name a few instances ). That has to do with direction. So I was disappointed with Clint Eastwood's direction, which is rare because I usually love his movies. This one plodded and really didn't get me.

whatever happened to the unwritten rule between cinema goers of not giving away anything that might lead to someone figuring out the end of a movie without giving a warning first?

I will not rent it then

If you want depressing, try Cold Mountain...

it was a great movie

but in actuality it is really a ture story being told...

when watching a movie that is a true story it is better if you watch it as if it an A&E documentary being acted out with actors and in the case of Mystic River with some great actors and a great director!!
