I have 2 on order. Some days I feel like driving silver, the other days powder pink.

It's amazing what a few well placed styling changes can do to the five series. Personally I think the 5-series with the 545i rims doesnt look bad at all, but the M5 just looks like it will eat your children.

0-60 in under 5 seconds I believe and supposedly 7 speed SMG, a bit much, but I would just get a manual for a beast like this. :thumbsup

Answer me this...

I have a friend that has 2 BMW's on order. One a 2005 model and the other a 2006. He tells me there can be so much demand for certain bmw's that he can sell the option of buying the car to someone else for thousands!

I think he had to put down something like $500 on each car to order them. My question is this... Can he back out of the vehicle and get his downpayment back if he doesn't want the car? Is this a sound business practice? :)

I don't like the new 5 series at all, too round.

As far as the previous (current) gen, I much preferred driving the M3 to the M5. More nimble, more driving feel, etc.

Depends what years. I've driven a 93 m3 and a 91 m5.
I would take the m5 any day.
m3 is more in my price range so I'd be happy with that ;)

he should definitely get his money back if he doesn't want the car. i have a small deposit that i would of course expect to get back. the way i have things worked, it is all subject to test drive. so if i drive and don't like it, it simply goes to the next guy down the list. the car will last all of 30 seconds on the open market when they first start arriving.

i agree about the current generation. i'm not sure what i think about the looks of the new M5. i really need to see one in person...

You can hit a button on the remote and it will open up the windows and the sunroof..........a nice feature when you live ib S. FL in the summertime.

Lane 07-06-2004 09:09 PM

M5 kicks M3's ass, thats for sure

Strife 07-06-2004 09:11 PM

nice interior :thumbsup

Plan9 07-06-2004 09:12 PM

The front looks nice...the back, however, looks like a Honda Accord. BMW is my favorite car manufacturer, and imo, the new cars are losing the curves and the appeal that attracted me to them in the first place. The E46 M's are the pinnacle of automotive perfection, in my book.

For 30k more, I'd sure hope this would be the case.
Although I'd rather drive an M3 - M5s are just too large for my tastes.

about 9 months ago i talked to a dealer in San Diego that was taking deposits and with a promise to sell the car at sticker price. back then they thought US delivery was fall 2004 - now i'm hearing spring 2005. i know another dealer here in LA taking deposits, but they will sell the car to you at what they determine to be 'market' price.

born4porn 07-06-2004 09:26 PM

that is a very impressive machine :thumbsup

That is a beautiful car, I like the m3 better though for some reason. I fell in love when i first saw it, but the m5 looks great too.

qwe 07-06-2004 09:36 PM

estimated time for it is 4.5-4.7 in 0-62mph, but since bmw always under rates their cars it will be probably in low 4's =)

time to say goodbye E55 AMG -)

Short Irish Guy 07-06-2004 09:38 PM

price?

Kind of an awkward intake setup...

I always hated V engines.

Sosa 07-06-2004 10:36 PM

that car is awesome

What happens when the E65 comes out?

:)

cool1g 07-06-2004 10:52 PM

is there going to be an E65? that would be nuts if they keep the HP rating the same.

i'm a bit suprised at the early 0-60 times est. for the M5 - for 500 HP and a SMG tranny, some people were predicting 3.8 for the 0-60.

BMW can't let the E55 outrun it for bragging rights...

I am on the waiting list for the sl65. I imagine if they are doing the SL they will do the E wich started the AMG craze.

The SL65 is packing twin tubro v12, over 600HP.

Amazing car....

Za Ha 07-06-2004 11:12 PM

Just fuckin beautiful!

I really like the way BMW has redone most of its cars, benz is lacking behind a bit especially with their SUPER SUPER old ML design.

Manowar 07-06-2004 11:29 PM

Looks awesome, but not too different in looks to the current 5 series

jwerd 07-06-2004 11:32 PM

I have friends who have done this numerous times, its speculation. They do make large with selling the paper. If you dont get the deposit back its just a business expense. They have done this with the Tbirds, The benz convertibles, and about a 1/2 dozen PT cruisers when they fist came out .

johnydo 07-07-2004 04:23 AM

This M5 is a top notch car, I would like to make a test drive but have to wait until the car dealers have one.

TweetyBird 07-07-2004 04:24 AM

the M5 really kicks ass !! :thumbsup

johnbosh 07-07-2004 04:26 AM

$500? I think last time I had to give 10% of the price. They make a car exactly as you want it, so they shouldnt give money back. Why would anybody cancel the order, when the car is manufactured?

kmanrox 07-07-2004 05:10 AM

i'm not sure what model bimmer it was, but i saw a brand new larger sized bimmer today in bangkok and it was the first bmw that i ever was struck by the nice sound of the engine... could it have been a new m5? it was definitely the new body style i know that much...
