Don't think there are any spyware laws (YET!) but I guess you could catagorize it under "malicious online activity" or something.
You might need a good lawyer for this one...

theres nothing malicious about the code it does not auto install does not manipulate cookies i dunno what it does after the user installs there maybe thats what he's bugging about

Someone should find out what the code does once installed.
They have stated numerous times its nothing except tracking stuff.... they denied that its spyware or adware. If it does turn out to be spyware or adware maybe they can be charged with fraud for lying to affiliates about what they are promoting?

I just built my wife a PC with a fresh install of XP on it. When I get home tonight I'll infect it and see if I can find out what exactly happens. It'll be no loss, there's nothing on it but the OS right now.

They spammed me as well daily on ICQ telling me I could make $6k in 4 days..woohoo :1orglaugh

I started getting popups afger I downloaded mediatickets to see what it is , it is not likely it was anything else, it had advertising in my native language , dutch

Remember the guy who was selling his sites for 5K?... he has mediatickets in his sig... ;)

Hmm.. Im guessing if he's willing to put in this much cash to LEGALLY go after them its much much more than just autoinstalling or annyoying popups and spyware.

It must be hijacking signup pages..

Autoinstalls, dialers, popups, spyware are one thing..
But stealing signup pages is another. Very serious shit.

If im wrong and you are just annoyed with popups and stuff. get over it.....

But the fact you are willing to go in 10k to legally go after em im thinking its more on the serious end. Stealing signup pages when the surfer goes to signup for a program.

Im sure you have legal grounds on em as well if you persued em.

again... I think he is hinting at that they may be stealing Signup pages. Wheather they do or not I dont know.

Seems to be an epidemic as of late. CCBill most notably has been talked about in the last month or so to become victum to shit like this.

Not sure how true it is or how much they are or were or even really were affected, but its been discussed and many insist its happening.

To be honest with you I'd sue them for stealing traffic in any form what-so-ever. Guys like you and me with real traffic are getting killed by these guys.

I just dont want to come right out and name names or companies involved or people who are taking a huge hit from it in fear of getting sued myself.

No doubt affilates are noticeing the fall of signups, and when they start suspecting affilate programs, or certain billing compamies, or other things they'll move away just becasue of this, even if its not the sponsors fault.

So Im real careful with what I say.

But we know whos involved here and whats going on.

Like I said in another thread.....If they really are stealing joins, then a civil suit is the least of their worries.

Isn't there a way to view the code?

Or install their software then signup on a paysite and see if you get credit for it?

If you don't get credit for the signup I'd be worried.

If it's compiled (and I assume it is) then the short answer is NO.

Yeah pretty much the only way to see what its doing would be to install it on a virgin PC and do some surfing.
