Newbie needs help with Nameservers
1. If I would like to change my name servers, what shod I think about before I do that??
2. Currently my name servers are one of my domains, can I change this to my hosting providers domain and IP? 2.1 Do I need to do anything else or is it just that simple to cut and paste new name servers? :helpme |
I am assuming you mean that your domain is currently pointing to your registrar's nameservers.
If so then yes, enter the new name servers that your host gave you and wait a day or two and your domain will point to your new host. |
1. be sure that new host is better then the old one perhaps
2. if they offer domain hosting why not 2.1. just cut & paste and wait (usually 24 hours) that they refresh |
are you signing up with a new host?
They should provide you with the name servers that you have to change to. Usually you would login into your domain registrar's site to change the Nameservers |
No its not like that Im not changing my host, I have dedicated server. Some guy set it up for me before..
Now the question is: In WebHost Manager I see one of my domains as a name server, now I wonder if I could change this to my hosting providers nameservers in WHM and domain registry? Is that all? Nothing else to worry about? |

You're not making sense, bro. If things are working, why change 'em? Usually when you signup with a host, they will give you nameservers to use ... ie ns1.host.com, ns2.host.com ... |
Depending on registrar, it isn't always simple changing NS entries for a domain that is being used as a name server. You may need to fax a letter w/ a copy of a picture ID.
2nd, make sure you have your hosts correct name servers. 3rd, Do you have other domains using your "main" domain as the name server? When all these are known / ready, set your "new" nameserver, your hosts, as the primary and keep your secondary (ie: ns2.yourdomain.com) as your secondary. It should start resolving within 2 days. When you are sure, set your secondary nameserver to your hosts. You will have to do this w/ all domains on that box. |
