calling all intellegent people: help me!

OK so my pc is seriously pissing me off big time. Please help me. Everything runs fine but when I open ICQ or MSN everything freezes and the words that I type dissapear when I type them and show up a few seconds to minutes later. ANYWAY.

I have ran spybot, ad-aware, norton professional, win xp manager, defragged, checked disk, deleted temp files and cookies, emptied recycle bin, redownloaded icq, deleted un needed progs, gotten windows updates and still no solution. Any ideas? I seriously need to be able to IM people at this time. Help?

MrIzzz 07-05-2004 01:59 PM

johnbosh 07-05-2004 02:10 PM

Heh, sorry for quoting with such a pic.

Hmm.. sorry Stephanie but that looks like a pretty clean Windows..
I don't think it's infected by something.

Try running Your scanners from Windows' "Safe-Mode", they may miss otherwise.
Could be it's infected by something still though, in that case: project reformat :(

Good luck in any case :thumbsup

Sounds familiar, i had the same problem with one of my computers - the problem was a corrupted ccapp.exe.

ccapp.exe is a part of Norton AV and after
a deinstallation of it and a new install of
Norton AV everything was back to normal.

could it be overheating? try cleaning your fan with air

Sometimes adware notices sypware in the reg but is unable to remove it. You would have to do this manually in the reg. Check the report adware gave you for this.

I'm going to second this. In the past couple of weeks I started getting erratic behaviour for no apparent reason. Then yesterday my fan started groaning like a truck. Opened up the box to find the fan and heat sink completely packed with dirt. Actual dirt (Arizona is dusty, to put it mildly). It's a miracle the whole thing hadn't gone up in flames.

Anyway, several Q-tips and a can of air later, things are running much more smoothly...

Elli 07-05-2004 04:51 PM

Make sure you're not running zonealarm 5.5. If you are, uninstall and install 4.5

VideoJ 07-06-2004 01:07 AM

Switch to Trillian It's free, it has both icq and msn (also IM and Yahoo), and it has a decent history (unlike ICQ).
