Some Fuckhead just sent me a postdated cheque!!!

$4k and that motherfucker sends me a cheque dated 08.26.04!!! I'm going to deposit it and see what my bank does.

I bet it won't actually deposit until August 26th! Anyone know how a bank manages situations like this? Should I change the date or would that be forgery of some sort? :feels-hot

Try calling the bank on the check and ask if he has the funds available to pay the check?

David! 07-05-2004 08:45 AM

The bank won't care, just deposit it, but be prepared for it to bounce :(

Tom_PMs 07-05-2004 08:45 AM

yes it would be forgery of some sort for sure.
When was payment due to you? If it's due now, then demand a new check, jeez.
If you deposit it, you accept it as written.

Groove 07-05-2004 08:47 AM

Isn't it illegal for them to do that?

MaDalton 07-05-2004 08:47 AM

that's my birthday - seems to be destined as a gift to me :Graucho

post dating a check in California is illegal.

so if in California just put it into the bank if they have the funds 2 cover it

Mike-BP 07-05-2004 08:48 AM

Happened to me once too. The bank waits till the 26th with depositing the check. I won't change the date if I were you though.

Doctor Dre 07-05-2004 08:49 AM

Dont cash it now ... most likely wont pass . Just send him his cards after the check go through ..

btw the guy never got a hold of them ...

Kingfish 07-05-2004 09:05 AM

I would cash it now funds or not. Banks ignore postdating. If it bounces you have more collection opportunities at your disposal than you do if you just sit on top of it.

Babaganoosh 07-05-2004 09:07 AM

Don't start his work until 8-26.

somehow i think its for something already done

directfiesta 07-05-2004 09:13 AM

Need the cash now?

Go to a " check cashing " facility. You will pay a % for the service, but if they do take it, you are home free ... :2 cents:

Exactly, it's probably post dated for a reason.

If you try now, and the guy doesn't have the money... it'll bounce and you won't get the money and the guy will get upset and not send you another check.

hova 07-05-2004 09:16 AM

Damn thats smart!

Jdoughs 07-05-2004 12:48 PM

im guessing the check was written on the 26th of july, its probably just an error.

Can you get in contact with them?...if it was an error im sure they will wire it out to you ASAP

Magg 07-05-2004 12:54 PM

considering its not the 26th of july yet!!

assuming it's not an error, he is telling you that on the 26th Aug, he will have the funds available. so its really up to you if you accept that arrangement or not. have you contacted him and asked why the delay?

errr i meant june..lol if it wasnt a mistake we all need to know who this was so we can avoid them.

EviLGuY 07-05-2004 02:35 PM

What kind of thought process does this guy have? Well I'll order some work now.. and pay by post dated check, but I wont mention I am going to do it.. haha it'll be funny.

project_naughty 07-05-2004 03:23 PM

By your spelling of the word "cheQUE", I assume you're in the UK. In the US they call it a "check" :1orglaugh

If so, the banks started ignoring post-dated cheques last year so if you bank it it should be cashed, assuming the payer has adequate funds in his account.

polish_aristocrat 07-05-2004 03:24 PM

just wait this time or request another check and make sure it doesnt happen anymore
