A need to vent about those damn audio banners...
 

I never really did like those flash banners that sites like PureFuck.com use to advertise because I can always see some guy surfing porn and having the volume up high and all of a sudden this audio voice of this girl comes on and someone in another room or something hears it and it turns into an embarrassing situation... I run a TGP myself and have thought of banning galleries that have these banners on many occasion and now I feel the definite need to ban these from being submitted. I was updating my TGP tonight and I was on the phone with this girl that I have been hanging out with for the past couple weeks and I think she is really amazing. I'm not embarrassed at all for running porn sites but she was kind of conservative so I didn't feel the immediate need to tell her what I really do (up until now I told her I do web design and site management). But when I was on the phone with her tonight I was checking one of the galleries a webmaster submitted to me and this girls voice comes blaring on my speakers "looking for hot hard porn" and I cut the volume immediately but the damage was done... She was like "are you looking at porn sits" I was like "uhhhh... ya, I run about a dozen or so." Five minutes earlier she was telling that I was the nicest guy she has met in a long time and now I know this taints the way she thinks about me because alot of girls hate the whole porn thing. I kinda feel shitty because this is a great girl and I don't want her to think i'm a creep or anything for working with porn all day... so this fear of these banners messing with someone else came around and kicked me right in the ass... she says its cool and everything, and it was just kind of shocking to her, but I know its going to sit in the back of her mind. oh well, what can ya do... it pays the bills. Anyway, I just felt the need to vent about this and from now on I'm banning galleries with these banners from my TGP, and I guess i'll have to wait for tomorrow to see if this whole thing messes up my chances with this chick.

Yea these banenrs are really bad, plus a lot of them says something like:

If you wanna get your porn, press "R" on your keyboard!

Then when the visitor press it, it redirects to your advertiser.

Sextracker pay per banner loading program works like this, so I'm sure it will just decrease your profit my using them.

An I'm also sure all the biggest TGP's will ban them like you did, if it's not already done.

It seems that all of us have been on the phone when those stinking banners start playing. It has happened to me so many times!

well i never experienced.. i did consider using this banner for tgp posting earlier.. but now i guess not i dont want my page get banned.. but i was talking to a friend who runs a free host and he said he made good profit out of it.. so it might be profit making.. i never used them myself.. so im wondering.. now looks like its not good idea to use them..

I have had some experiences with those as well, but my volume is usually not so high,
anyway I think it's stupid, I'm sure it will be banned like dialers already are on some tgp's, I hate both but for different reasons,

I have never posted them on my TGP. Those things suck my ass (and they don't really track clicks like they say they do).

I hope the big guys start banning them too.

When I'm doing porn work I plug in the headphones... just in case. But there's a vast power to be found in the use of flash banners. It's just that no one has tapped it yet.

I have often thought that about flash but after reading the death by flash article I changed my mind. Its the people with 56k modems that suffer and maybe just click out in frustration. I have not got round to studying flash and don't know the first thing about it. Is it difficult to make nice graphics or do you need to be an artist.

Susan- where is this article i'd be interested in reading it. I agree that flash is not for all connection speeds, nor cpu speeds (my shitty p166 is brought to it's knees by flash). But, there is nowhere to go but up. It's possible to have flash banners that are of a tiny filesize though. You could fit a tiny flash animation in a standard banner, and have it's filesize stay under 15k
