An Internet "troll" is a person who delights in sowing discord on the Internet. He (and it is usually he) tries to start arguments and upset people.

Trolls see Internet communications services as convenient venues for their bizarre game. For some reason, they don't "get" that they are hurting real people. To them, other Internet users are not quite human but are a kind of digital abstraction. As a result, they feel no sorrow whatsoever for the pain they inflict. Indeed, the greater the suffering they cause, the greater their 'achievement' (as they see it). At the moment, the relative anonymity of the net allows trolls to flourish.

Trolls are utterly impervious to criticism (constructive or otherwise). You cannot negotiate with them; you cannot cause them to feel shame or compassion; you cannot reason with them. They cannot be made to feel remorse. For some reason, trolls do not feel they are bound by the rules of courtesy or social responsibility.

Perhaps this sounds inconceivable. You may think, "Surely there is something I can write that will change them." But a true troll can not be changed by mere words.

Also a troll is like when you're fishing for something.

If you've ever gone fishing and you slowly move around from spot to spot while casting you are "trolling."

So you could also say a troll is someone throwing bait out hoping you'll take it and run with it so they can snag you into their little shit fest.

Very nice juicy..I'd like to add that a troll can be killed in only one way, only one thing will truly harm him, be it not sunlight, nor insult, nor reasoning, only IGNORE can kill a troll. go forth good peoples of GFY and use this knowledge wisely.

Oncle_Benny 07-03-2004 06:27 PM

Juicy sounds a little like "John Connor" and a "troll" sounds sort of like a Terminator.

"Kyle Reese: Listen! And understand! That terminator is out there. It can't be bargained with! It can't be reasoned with! It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead!"

I wanna be an INCUBUS!:1orglaugh

---In medieval European folklore, the incubus is a male demon (or evil spirit) who visits women in their sleep to lie with them in ghostly sexual intercourse. The woman who falls victim to an incubus will not awaken, although may experience it in a dream. Should she get pregnant the child will grow inside her as any normal child, except that it will possess supernatural capabilities. Usually the child grows into a person of evil intent or a powerful wizard. Legend has it that the magician Merlin was the result of the union of an incubus and a nun.
