...is in the early stages of Emphysema. How long does it take to kill a person? I am trying to prepare myself. Is it long and drawn out or does it go pretty quick? I hate to sound morbid but I don't want her to suffer.

My husband just died of emphysema a few months ago.. I know a lot about it
One thing I know is.. it can be arrested if you quit smoking early enough, it won't go away but it won't get worse.. didn't your mom's doctor say anything about that?Comment

If they found it early they can treat it and slow it down as well as make the person comfortable. I would say if they really got it early it will be many years before it would get the best of her.

Geez, that's sad. Well, the best you can do is to be beside her till her last (I'm sorry) day, and tell her all the things that you want to say, you can cry in front of her, she's you mother anyway. Believe me she'll be thankful you stayed beside her.
