Four U.S. Soldiers Charged in Iraq Prisoner Drowning
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Army has charged four soldiers, three of them with manslaughter, following the drowning of an Iraqi prisoner, while a senior general criticized U.S. military detention policies, officials said on Friday.
The soldiers were accused of forcing two Iraqis off a bridge into the Tigris River, said Army Lt. Col. Jonathan Withington, a spokesman at Fort Hood, Texas. They had picked up the men on a curfew violation while they were on patrol near the city of Samarra north of Baghdad on Jan. 3. One of the two Iraqis drowned, while the other managed to get out of the river. |
This is the difference between a modern nation and a third world country of savages. We hold our soliders accountable for such actions.
